Thistle Victoria Review

 by  anonymous  on  2007-09-13

Great location! The Thistle is part of Victoria Station and the location outweighs most of the downside. The Broadband Wireless connection is good but very painful to initiate. The television is as small as a laptop computer screen and difficult to view. While the rooms are small, they are clean and the beds are comfortable.

Thistle Victoria Review

I stayed at the Thistle Victoria during a recent business trip. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is within walking distance to many of London's historic sites including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. It is also conveniently located right next to Victoria Station which provides access to trains and buses to travel through out the city. Victoria Station is also full of fast food restaurants and newstands, in case you need a late night snack. My room was very small: probably the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was approximately 15 feet long and 7 feet wide. It only had a twin-size bed. The bathroom was of average size. My room did not have air conditioning, but that was fine since the temperature outside was in the 60s F. The window did open which allowed me to cool the room if I felt it was too warm.Overall, the room was small but it met my needs. And the location of the hotel is great.

Should be half the price

The room was absurdly small (less than six feet wide) and very expensive. There was no hot water one night, and the elevator that services the top floor was out of order one day. The bed was uncomfortable. The positives: the location is very convenient and the room was clean. I would not stay there again.

Old European feel in the best location in London. Get off the train from the airports and step into the hotel lobby. By day use the underground ""tube"" to travel and forget the pricey taxis. Walk 300 yards to Buckingham Palace. If you have never stayed in a European hotel, know that the rooms are very small, but that's the rule not the exception. When you understand this, you will love this place! This was our fav place after 7 trips! Will always stay here.

I have stayed at this hotel every time I have been to London. Which is probably 10-12 times since 1999. The hotel is literally right inside Victoria Station. Get the tube at H-row or the express at Gatwick and there you are. No taxi's. Just walk right into the hotel. HOTEL ROOMS ARE SMALL IN EUROPE. Live with it. The restaurant changes hands alot but has always been good. I always eat there at least once. There are two sides to the hotel. If you request to be on the new side (& pay for it) you'll get something akin to an American style room. Even very expensive hotels have small rooms. Many of them are retro-fit bldgs. and they did with what they had. This bldg. I believe is 200+ years old. I have never had a problem with staff. As a matter of fact when I was there in 1999 my elderly mother had a allergic reaction requiring hospitalization. The staff took care of everything. All I had to do was get in the ambulance. I probably wouldn't stay anywhere else.

The staff does not speak English. My room was across from the busy Victoria bus station, it was very loud. Very tiny room. I almost cried when I first saw it. It was supposed to be 4 stars, I kept looking for the other 2 stars..
