Beware! They charge for everything

 by  anonymous  on  2008-07-07

Is it really necessary to squeeze every last cent out of your guests? For example, an Internet connection will cost you per day. They also have a bottle of whiskey sitting on the mini-bar. They staff checks at least twice a day to see if you touched anything in the mini bar in the hopes that you will have been dumb enough to have taken something. I hate being awoken first thing in the morning and interrupted again in the evening under the suspicion that I took something from the mini bar. The staff were completely unhelpful in resolving these problems or even checking me into the hotel on time. They smile and bow, but are worthless when it comes to actually doing something to resolve an issue. The fitness center is a great facility, but you are given a great hassle when you try to use it. We had to talk with about 3-4 people in order to get access to the swimming pool. The only two good things about this hotel are the cigar shop and the bar specials. Be sure to show up between 5-8 PM for great specials and theme nights in the Rouge Bar. All in all, the JW Marriott Seoul is about squeezing every last cent from its guests. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Beware! They charge for everything

I stayed at the JW Marriott Seoul in March 2008 on business. It is a world class hotel, even by Asia's high standards. As soon as you walk in the huge, marble lobby you'll know you are going to be pampered. The staff is friendly and very responsive. My room was beautifully decorated in contemporary style, and much larger than I expected. The king bed was a little firm, but the down comforter and pillows enveloped me in a cloud of comfort. Carpet is starting to show a hint of age, but overall the room was fantastic. The marble bathroom was lovely, with a large tub at one end and a glass-enclosed shower at the other. Ammenities included very nice soaps, shampoo, lotion and bath salts, but if you forgot toothpaste or shaving cream you'll pay 10 if you use the overpriced mini-bar. The hotel's many restaurants are excellent, but expensive. Some travelers have complained of the older style tube TV. Sure, a plasma screen would be nice, but the room was far too nice to quibble about the TV. The fitness facility is one of the nicest I've ever seen, with an olympic pool, rock climbing wall, mineral baths, and 150 fitness machines! The hotel is conveniently located atop a subway station and Express Bus Terminal. For 15 US a luxury bus took me straight to Incheon Airport in 50 minutes. Adjacent to the hotel is a 10-story mall complete with Outback Steakhouse, McDonald's, Krispy Kreme, and of course many Korean, Chinese and Japanese restaurants. I've traveled extensively around the world and have seldom been disappointed by Marriott. The JW Marriott Seoul stands out as one of the better ones. The government rate of 220 was a bit steep, but that's Seoul.

Nice rooms, great gym, pool a little too hot. I was here last year for a few days. I absoslutely hate Korean food. I searched the department store next door, nothing I could eat. I searched the bus station next door. Nothing except for a good italian restaurant. They served pickles with with my pasta, but at least I didn't starve.Seoul is a great place though. If you like Korean food, this is the place to be!

The service in this hotel is impeccable, the views are amazing & the rooms are large, comfy and have the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on! This is by far the best hotel all-around that we've stayed at!
