nice and relaxing
Hotel is very clean and in a great location on the island. If you don't want to be around big crowds, this is the place to stay. Maybe only 15 people on the beach all day. Resort next door is also very nice with good food, but expensive. Snorkel under the pier tons of fish. Rent a car and drive around the island and pull off the road to get some great pictures on secluded beaches. Most relaxing vacation I have ever been on. Will be going back in the future.
nice and relaxing
The Reef Resort is set on the east end of Grand Cayman island. The resort is excellent for beach relaxation with lounge chairs available on the beach or by the 3 pools. The beachfront luxury suites are all non-smoking and have a huge balcony over looking the gorgeous blue sea. The resort is beautifully maintained and very clean. Even in the morning, employees of the resort cleaned the seaweed off the beach for better enjoyment of their 1600' beach and swim area. The Hideaway beach bar and Castaways are excellent. On the weekends, Castaways offers buffet style dinners or you may order off their regular items menu. The staff in all areas of the resort are extremely friendly, knowing you on a first name basis. Located on the premises is a dive shop ran by Ocean Frontiers. Highly recommend their staff and knowledge for your next scuba diving trip or snorkeling adventure. Very handy grocery store across the street and a small store in front of the resort that sells alchohol and wine. Last, rent a car. The resort is about 40 minutes from Georgetown. You'll need it to drive around this wonderful island. Enjoy! I know we will be back in 2008.
Best Vacation ever!
The Reef Resort provided a relaxing trip for us. The beach was long and private. Water was blue and calm. On Saturday, we went to 7 Mile Beach to visit, and saw that all those hotels each had small strips of not-so-private beaches. Those hotel rooms provided very limited beach views, and beach chairs were all crowded. At the Reef, every room had excellent beach views, and we could always find a private place on the beach. We had a deluxe studio and loved it: clean, plenty of space, comfortable. The food was good and fairly priced, though not great. There's a resort/condos next door if you want a different menu once in a while. We are a little picky, and wanted more local or ethnic food options. Our book and the concierge were helpful. The Lighthouse (15 min drive) was pricey, but the best food we have had in years, great for a special dinner. Try the beignets or any dessert. Thai Orchid had awesome thai food. You need a car, but do not rent from Thrifty's: horrible, slow service. Pay the extra money for the two main rental agencies. Bug spray is helpful for evenings. Rum Point is a great outing for a few hours: great food, awesome snorkeling under the pier, water activities, and nice scenic drive with beautiful homes. Reef did not seem to provide many options for kids, though great for couples like us.
nice and relaxing
We loved our stay at the Reef Resort. We were looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway and this resort was perfect for that purpose. There were only a handful of other couples at the Reef and we felt like we had our own private Caribbean beach. Whenever we swam in the pool we were the only ones there. We stayed in a studio unit on the second floor. We had a gorgeous view from our balcony and the room looked as if no one else had ever stayed in it. We took advantage of the grocery store right across the street and stocked up on items for breakfast and lunch. We ate dinner at the Reef's beach bar the first evening and then we tried a few other restaurants for the other nights of our stay. The balcony was in the shade after about 11am so it was lovely to sit out there and read while a nice breeze kept us cool. Everything about the room was perfect - it was all so new and clean. Everything worked properly and the kitchenette area was adequately stocked. We have been to several other Caribbean islands and so far Grand Cayman is our favorite. We will definitely go back to the Reef Resort.
Best Vacation ever!
The resort is as great as all the reviews, rooms are large, very clean, beds comfy, and the beach and pool are beautiful, but if you have a dispute on your credit card when you get home, the customer service is over. The Reef Manager must not be concerned with return customers.
The Beach!
This was our best vacation ever. Very quiet, no huge tourist garbage, the resort will arrange everything for you upon request, the food at the resort is not as good, but the Hotel next door has an excellent restaurant. Very nice beach at the resort and fabulous to relax! We will go back to the Reef as soon as possible.
