"A five star hotel missing a couple stars"

 by  anonymous  on  2008-07-09

Family first visit to Monterrey forced to stay at this location due to downtown hotels been booked. The room are very pricy however very comfortable rooms. I was forced to secure 2 rooms since they will not allow 3 adults in a room (mother-in law). This was a waste of money since the second room ended up been the problem of the trip. We found a pad filled with blood in the bathroom also blood stains on the comforter and siding in the restroom. I contacted the front desk and requested for them to clean the room. I did receive a quick response from the staff. The pros of this hotel: outstanding food, excellent free breakfast. Very caring staff however bee ready to tip for every interaction they have with you. On a one day stay you will spend in tips, Comfortable double beds in the room. The cons of this hotel are location, unless you are in Monterrey on business. Hotel is located on the other side of the city away from the attractions and museums. There?s no shuttle service available however you have taxis available. It will cost you to go to the macro plaza, old town, or market center...... Once you are there every thing to see or to do is located with in a nice walking distance. Make sure you negotiate the fare with the driver prior to getting in to the taxi. Some drivers are reasonable others will try to charge you more. If you like to visit ?La cola de Caballo? or Las Grutas you can negotiate with the taxi drivers to take you there and to wait for you. Normal charges are with 2 hours of waiting time.

I participated as a Physician in the National Congress of Internal Medicine in Monterrey, 15-18 November 2007. I received a warm welcome by the valet parking staff who diligently cared for my luggage and accompanied me to a very nice room, with decent furnitures, kept meticulously clean by housekeeping, but with a poor view to an unconspicous hilltop. I resquested a room with a view to the front of the Hotel, but was told that none was available. Breakfast presents an excellent assortment of fruits, vegetables, and many hors-d' oeuvres expertly prepared at one's request by a young, talented, and pleasant chef. However, the waiters are more interested in charging the services and collecting tips than in attending the guests with adequate standards. Special attention was paid to me by y-x, who wasted no time in presenting me the bill even before I started to eat. Amazingly, she had already taken the iniative of computing her tip and affix the amount in the corresponding line. At check out, I signed the information invoice (with charges included) that would be paid by Pfizer Laboratories, but I was refused vehemently a copy of the signed invoice. The manager on duty even insisted that Radisson Casa Grande had a policy not to give to any customer a copy of his or her expenses at the hotel. Good thing that he could not keep a straight face, as he was telling me the outrageous lie. Finally after a number of phone calls and long minutes of waiting at the front desk, another manager, yielded to my demands. Oops, I almost forgot to mention that I am a well-groomed and 43-year old Black Physician.
