The hotel was excellent and everything was great.
Riu Palace Las Americas Cancun
Nice hotel; nice rooms; worst beds seen in many, many years. Good food, many vegetable offerings;however speciality restaurants were fully booked during my entire stay. Only other option was buffet dining. This got old after a couple of meals. The all-inclusive does also cover use of dining faciilities at any other RIU in Cancun. (There is a newer, more active RIU right next door.) Wait...the room service menu was unbelievable. I thought the menu was a joke and called the front desk to get the real menu. Only 7 selections total available from 11 am thru the early hours. Again the beds were the most uncomfortable, lumpy matresses seen in years. Even our friends luxury suite had the same bad bedding. The bed and bath linen were very disappointing. Gray towels anyone?!! With all of this, this still was a good value for my getaway. The staff was very courteous, attentive and responded to calls very quickly. The pools were great. Several poolside activities that included merchandise vendors on several evenings around the pool (nice selection and with varying and reasonable prices). Good location near good shopping. Near other hotels that you can check out for future stays. If you go, make sure you ask for an ocean view room. Most other room views are not that good (hotel roof tops; utility areas, etc.)
Felt like Spring Break
My boyfriend, another couple, and I stayed at this resort for 5 days/4 nights. It?s a beautiful hotel and compared to the other RIUs there, ours was definitely the best. We were greeted with a drink upon arrival and the service was amazing from that moment forward. The rooms appeared to be nice, but the bed and couch were terribly uncomfortable. The food was so great and you are in paradise, so I guess that didn't matter to me as much. The Brazilian and Spanish restaurants were amazing! The desserts were the only thing lacking in flavor. To top it off, there was plenty of entertainment each day and night. It's very close, walking distance to the downtown night scene as well, which was really convenient. The only complaint I have other than the comfort of the bed, would be that the drinks were never very strong. There was one bartender who worked at one of the outside bars who was amazing, but other than that, they tended to be weak. Overall though, it was a very fun and relaxing experience! If I ever go back to Cancun, I would most definitely stay at this resort.
Riu Palace Las Americas Cancun
The trip getting to Cancun was horrible and we were afraid that our hotel reservation would be lost (along with our luggage), but when we finally arrived at 11PM (6 hours late), our room was perfect. We had a great view. The room was clean. The staff was friendly. We had no trouble finding lounge chairs or shade at any time of day. Bring aqua socks or shoes because there are lots of rocks as you first get into the beach water - after about 10 yards, the rocks are less frequent and the beach is great! The Brazilian restaurant was our favorite. The steakhouse was good. The buffet was pretty good too. If you are used to eating 5 star, you'll be disappointed. But this buffet was better than most cruises or all inclusives where we have stayed. We didn't make it to the other restaurants. The room was cold most nights, but you had to keep the AC on to get rid of the humidity - but that's what happens when you vacation in humid places! We went on a 2 1/2 hour snorkel tour at Pt Morales through Olympus Tours - had a great time, but this is not for beginners. We are very good swimmers and by the end of the day were completely exhausted. I do recommned this tour group as they were very professional. We also booked our grand transportation through them. I have stayed at the Riu in Cabo and the rooms look exactly the same, so I assume the other Riu's in Cun also look the same. We're glad that we were able to use the the beach at the Riu Cancun (next door) as it had more shade. We can't wait to go back.
Felt like Spring Break
I went with two girls that were 18 and 25. We all thought the hotel was amazing. The staff was great and very helpful. The room was perfect and the entire place was always clean and very well maintained. It was a great location to walk to all of the hot spots and night and shopping during the day. We booked day trip through the hotel and always had a great time. We would definetly go back to this hotel and I will tell all of my friends about it.
Great Getaway!!!
We went for a relaxing girls trip getaway....away from kids & jobs. Even though this resort said that it was not adults only, we felt that there probably wouldn't be a lot of children there - and there wasn't. But there WERE a lot of teenagers & college kids there. The place had a Spring Break atmosphere at the pool and beach areas at all times. It was nearly impossible to find seats by the pool. It was extremely crowded. The food was just okay - nothing to write home about. The hotel was extremely clean though. It wasn't a horrible trip by any means, but just wasn't what we were expecting. That's our fault though that we didn't choose a spa resort or an adults only resort. Just know that it seems that this place has a younger kind of crowd & caters to the party people - not those seeking relaxation, peace & quiet.
