Nice Staff, Room stinks, Idiot at Concierge Desk
1) For a so called 4-star hotel, we were given a room with a giant crack in the bathroom sink, no bath tub and the shower handle comes off. 2) They put us on the first floor and we left our swim wear to dry overnight on the patio. . 3) the staff was friendly and helpful. 4) Food at the Sea Grill and the Italian restaurant was delicious, buffet is only good for breakfast only and compared to other resorts, this buffet is tiny. 5) Beach was very rocky. I felt very sorry for the 2 lone workers who was cleaning up the seaweed every day on the beach.

This was our 3rd time to Mexico near the Playa/ Tulum area and definately disliked the Dreams Tulum Resort the most. The grounds were were not kept up especially around the soccer field - gym area as fences were not repaired and the area had not been mowed in weeks. The room was clean but the A/C was definately insufficient as we had to put a towel under the door and close the patio curtains completely to get the room near 78 degrees. The service was poor while attending the buffet especially when you needed coffee or your drinks filled at the table. Part of the rear lobby area was under construction the whole time we were there as the floor tiles were being replaced. Also, getting service around the pool area was sparse. The beach area was nice but a little too rocky to enjoy most of the beach. We attended a wedding while we were there and the wedding couple mentioned that they were confronted with several hidden service charges that they were not aware of. The restaurants were difficult to get into with over an hour wait. After the wait, our group set down for dinner and the restaurant mentioned that they may need to charge an additional 15 per person? Keep in mind that this is an all inclusive resort. The resort is over priced and there are much nicer and newer resports in Playa Del Carmen for the same cost. I do not recommend this resort.
Dreams Tulum and Apple Vacations problem
This was our third trip in three years to Dreams Tulum. It was as great as ever. We spent a week with our grown sons. We enjoyed the restaurants especially the Asia (try the spring rolls). We ate at the Mexican everyday for lunch. We are members of the "I Prefer" which gets you an upgrade if rooms are available. We were upgraded to the newer section - the rooms were great. The Hotel had a bottle of wine and a fruit basket deliveried to our room the first night which was a really nice. The dive shop was great. We did the discover dive and then went out two other time.

The resort was beautiful with well kept grounds. The staff was very helpful for the most part. I found getting your room cleaned at 4 or 5 in the afternoon very inconveinent. The Seaside Grill was great and we ate several meals there. The evening buffet left a lot to be desired, but that could be a matter of taste. Plenty of activities and overall the staff was great with few exceptions.Tulum is in the middle of nowhere. This is a great resort to relax and enjoy the beach and su, but If shopping and partying outside the resort is your pleasure, this is may not be the resort for you. This is why we would not return to Dreams, 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride from the airport depending on who your driver is.
Dreams Tulum and Apple Vacations problem
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week at Dreams Tulum. In reading some of the reviews I was apprehensive. The resort is 1.5 hours away from the airport - so if you are looking to be close to airport or other areas this is not the place for you. If you are looking to be able to relax - this is a great place. We did have a few problems at check in but that was taken care of very quickly. Food was very good and waits for dinner where never longer than 30 mins(except at the Seaside Grill at lunchtime). Room Service was very prompt and the food was fresh. We did request an upgrade to a garden room in the Dreams section. I am glad we did. The Hacienda section was a longer walk to the pool and did not have as pretty of a view from the balcony. The rooms were very clean although we did find the weekend staff to not be as quick to cleaning the rooms. We found the entire staff to be very helpful and attentive. This is a friendly family resort so expect that there are chiildren in the pool area and around the resort. Overall this was one of our best vacations and would highly recommend Dreams Tulum. I am already looking to book at another Dreams resort.
The Quiet and Private Honeymoon we wanted
Not only do the rooms smell. The mgmt is horrible. Our room had no air conditioning for 3 days. We spoke to the mgmt each day and it wasn't until we called our travel agent that they moved us to another room. The hotel mgr would not even come out of his office to speak to us in person. The room they moved us to ended up being across the hall from the cleaning staff's storage room which was in use by 6AM each day which woke us up each morning. We tried working with the front desk, the concierge and the apple vacations staff on site and none of them helped us.
