Good for price but would stay elsewhere in future

 by  anonymous  on  2008-07-25

Pools were nice. Restaurants were nice but had very similiar menu selections and the prices of food and drinks were expensive (*for a mixed drink). The location was too far away from downtown San Juan or Old San Juan (40 - 60 minutes) so you cant just go to a bar or restaurant in the city (stuck at the resort). There were no clubs at the resort and the bars were not open late (close at midnight). The casino was small but had all the table and slots necessary. Shuttle to/from hotel cost * for two of us (could have rented a car at the airport which would have also come in handy being stuck at the resort). The last day before we left we noticed small bugs crawling on the tile throughout the hotel room. On a brighter side. The beach was not crowded and had non powered rentals at fair prices. The gift shop had anything you needed at fair prices (Rum bottle *). The on site Avis rental car desk was very knowlegable about the area and had fair prices (*/day). The food and drinks were very good. The resort property was beautiful. Enough activities to keep you satified for a week plus (golf, tennis, bicycle, beach, aerobics, hiking, cayak, shopping, casino, etc.). The hotel staff was exceptionally friendly and hospitable. Definatelly reccomend the Bio-Bay Cayak tour! However, if you have a rental or more than two people, drive yourself and save * per person. About 20 minutes from the resort (toward downtown San Juan) is a nice Shopping Outlet. Old San Juan (60 minutes) is beautiful with lots of shopping, food, bars and outlets. Downtown San Juan (40 Minutes) has many other hotels, beaches, bars and restaurants with things to do.

If you are looking to get away from the "rat race" type areas, this is the place for you. Rent a car and visit the busy, exciting areas; and then retreat to the seculsion of the Rio Mar. Many things to do right on the facility. Hotel and grounds are relaxing and breathtaking. Staff friendly and helpful.

Wonderful vacation

this was by far the best vaccation ever! the hotel was beautiful! the view was amazing, right on the beach! the staff and service were excellent. everyone was very friendly. the hotel was very, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. the food was really good (it was expensive to eat out all the time, but all of the menus and prices are all on their website). the spa was really, really nice! well worth it. there is every activity possible available to make anyone happy. the hotel even offers some free activities like iguana feedings and evening movies in the pool. the beach was beautiful and there are plenty of umbrellas and lounge chairs on the if you want shade. there are 3 pools, a kiddie, a family and an adult pool so if you don't want to be around kids splashing you don't have to share the same pool. the tours were really fun and well worth it, especially if you haven never been to the area (i wouldn't have wanted to do them without a guide). we didn't need to rent a car since we stopped at the grocery store for snacks before we got to the hotel and the place was so beautiful we didn't want to leave. however, if you do want to rent a car there is an avis right on site and the hotel offers other transportation options. it was an amazing value and was basically like staying out a full scale country club for a really good price! (i feel bad for anyone who doesn't have a good time here. they are obviously looking to complain and would complain about anything then).

My kids 14 and 10 had a great time...My husband really enjoyed the resort...Nice place to stay..Rent a car because you really are far from anything. We didn't eat at any of the resturants in the hotel very expensive..we wanted some island food so we went to different towns to eat as we did some sight seeing. BEWARE of the parking you have to pay for self park * for 24 hrs, valet was *. Buy your alcohol out of the resort and bring it back to your room, drinks are very expensive * for a Corona and * for a Mojito. We ate at a small bakery at the bottom of the hill every morning for breakfast, great prices. The staff at the hotel was very nice always willing to help. The pools are very nice, they have activities throughout the day. The beach is right at the resort, free chairs and umbrellas, great for tanning. They have an adult only pool that is very relaxing.....I recommend this resort for couples and families. Can't wait to go back!!!!!

Wonderful vacation

Very nice looking hotel! Staff seemed very friendly! They really need to tone down the entire Wyndham Vacation CLub Presentation. Pretty much every place you go someone is asking you you to take the 90 min tour. Enough Already!! The pools are very nice and there are plent of chairs to relax on. The Cabanas are the way to go, especiallly if its crowded on the weekends. For the most part this is a very nice property. We had taken (2) tours, one to San Juan, and one to the Rain Forest. Both times we had gotten the same same tour guide (Manny). He was excellent!! The only down side to the hotel is the restaurants. Let me start with the only positive. "Palio" is by far the best place in the hotel for dinner. Great atmosphere, service, and quality food and presentaion. Nobody minds paying high prices for food, but you must deliver the entire package. Breakfast buffet is a disaster! for adults, for kids, cold sausage, bacon, and pretty much everything else that is suppose to be hot, isn't. Omelettes are excellent! My advice is just go to the coffee shop next to the casino and get a bagel & coffee. Just don't make too many requests fron the girls at the coffee shop, they get a bit nasty under pressure of maybe supplying cream for your coffee rather than the milk that is provided. Good Luck, but it better than spending for breakfast every morning. There is a rest. called Shimas, that needs to be closed. Stay away from that disaster! Dinner at Marabella is pretty good. The hotel is great, but the food and bev side really needs to be looked at. The quaility of the food , combined w/the lack of service

When Can I Go Back

 by  anonymous  on  2008-07-15

My wife and I went here for our 20th anniversary and had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful to us. The front desk offered us an upgrade to an ocean view parlor room upon checkin and even showed us the room along with the resort view room I had booked. There was no comparison and we took the upgrade. We did rent a car and drove to old San Juan which is a beautiful place and nice way to spend the day. It is a little hectic driving over there and parking was difficult to find until we found a policeman who helped us to parking deck. It took about 45 minutes - 1 hour to get over there but we did not take the toll road so you could probably make it a little quicker if you went that way. The rainforest was very close and a great way to spend the day. The rest of the time was on the beach or at the pools and the resort itself is very well maintained and was not crowded during our stay. Plenty of towels and chairs available. We were glad we decided to stay outside of San Juan and just drive over there for the one day. We speak no Spanish but did not have any issues while we were at the resort or any of the tourist areas. Overall we had a great time and would recommend to anyone.
