Wonderful Hotel
We stayed here on our way back from a cruise. We booked three nights and wished we had stayed the whole week. I would go back to San Juan just ...
Beware: This place has a 25% TAX! Except that they tried to charge even more!
If you're spending $1,000 or more for a few nights, 25% is an enormous tax. Also, they actually somehow managed to try to charge me 27%! I book...

Great hotel - expensive restaurants
This hotel was beautiful; large, modern rooms with all the amenities. The rooftop pool and Jacuzzi were a lovely surprise and the hotel service was exceptional. The restaurants within the hotel were another story; overpriced, mediocre service and food. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, but would recommend eating elsewhere.
Great hotel - expensive restaurants
From the time we checked in, until checkout time, we were treated very well by the staff. We loved the ambiance, the wine and cheese reception each evening, the free wifi, and the location of the hotel in old San Juan. It was perfect for us, since we're not beach people. The hotel is convenient to restaurants and shops. We never felt any uneasiness about the neighborhood. We've already recommended it to friends.
Cruising Out of San Juan
When we arrived we were told that we needed to put a * dollar hold on a credit card which was news to us. My husband and myself ate at the overpriced hotel restaurant. Our meal took a long time to arrive & contained grains of sand. We never ate there again. When we called the front desk many times our phone calls went unanswered. We bought a movie and paid for it in cash; upon check out we were not only billed for the movie, but charged twice (the charges were removed). The water pressure is fleeting. You could be in the middle of a shower and then the water becomes cold and the pressure almost not existant. We also rented a car and had to pay * per night to park in the hotel lot.The last day of our stay, as we were leaving to complete checkout, the deadbolt would not unlock!!! We were literally trapped in our room for over 2.5 hours!!! We had plans for breakfast, plans to go out of town, a return our car rental...all plans were canceled because of not being able to leave. We ended up paying late car rental fees. Being trapped in a room is a huge fire hazard! Had there been a fire we would have been engulfed in flames (as we were on the third floor)! When the locks were finally broken after several tries, we were able to check out. Not one person apologized. I voiced my frustration in the matter bec. no one asked if we were ok, if we wanted a cup of coffee, anything! The girl at the front desk replied "I understand." The next time I will stay at another hotel.
The hotel is beautiful. It is in the Spanish style with a courtyard in the center. Every room has a place to sit and enjoy the breeze that is almost always blowing. The complimentary wine and cheese each evening is an elegant touch.
Great historic hotel centrally located in old san Juan. Gorgeous throughout. Wonderful and friendly staff.Daily cheese and wine.
This is a charming hotel with superior staff service. The rooms are nicely appointed with antiques and very clean. They offer free high speed Internet both in the room and library if you don't want to hook up your computer. An honor bar is set up in the evening which provides a nice place to relax. Great place to stay when cruising in and out of San Juan.
