Marriott San Juan Resort and Stellaris Casino

We originally were booked at a different hotel in San Juan. We switched after reading the consistently good reviews for this Marriott resort. It proved to be an excellent decision. The hotel is wonderful. The staff is polite and helpful. The rooms are standard size for most Marriotts but have recently been upgraded (we loved the flat screen TVS). The entire property is clean and well-maintained. The pool area is large and perfect for kids of all ages. The beach is great with plenty of lounge chairs. Food at the hotel is good but not inexpensive; don't expect "cheap eats". We especially liked the breakfast buffet. Another advantage is the hotel's proximity to Old San Juan. A quick cab ride will bring you to quaint shops and great restaurants. I highly recommend this Marriott to all.

great family getaway

 by  anonymous  on  2008-07-09

The location is on a busy side of town, and the beach is not really pretty. I was expecting blue water and nice ocean, but the water was rough and brown! The only nice staff memebers I encountered were the bell hop men and the maintenece people. The front desk and concierge were horrible and rude. When I asked about a specific resteraunt, the lady at concierge hinted that I could not afford it. I was so upset, that I think it helped make my decision to never return to that hotel. Also, the food is VERY expensive in the hotel, for three of us to eat one simple meal it was almost 80 bucks, and that is with no alcoholic drinks!!! The bottles of water cost 5 bucks!!! On the other hand, the rooms were pretty nice, and our air condition worked, so I cant complain on that note! Just not the best experience I was lookin for! I have stayed at the Ritz in San Juan and highly recommend it over the Marriott.

Marriott San Juan Resort and Stellaris Casino

We enjoyed our stay at the Marriott very much. Ideal location with the beach, pools and Condado area right out the front door. We upgraded to deluxe ocean view which had a nice balcony with table and 2 chairs. None of the previous reviews mentioned how windy it was. It was always very very windy, which did keep the temp and humidity down. Due to high wind, there was a red flag every day on the beach. That does not close the beach and really made for a great time in the surf. Not for young chlidren. My kids - 16 and 21 loved it. We ate at Tuscany which was very good. Great Mojitos, although each! Also ate at the poolside restaurant. When we arrived, our bellman (Juan) drew us a map of local restaurants and made some recommendations. He recommended Angel Inn for Puerto Rican food and it was very good food - surroundings not much to look at. I recommend Buena Yerba for island cuisine. Very cuban - also great Mojitos - only ! Try to eat outside. Across the street was a place with great pizza and salad. Four adults split 2 salads and 2 personal pizza's and had more than 1/2 a pizza left. The local beer - Medalla and Medalla Light are excellent. There is a small grocery store about 2 1/2 blocks from the hotel. We bought food items and took to the room for some breakfasts. Small frig. in the room. The beer was only 6 six pack ( each at hotel). Also bought rum and coffee there to bring home. Drank mostly bottled water but also had ice in drinks with no ill effects. We took a day excursion snorkeling on Spread Eagle II - a great time.

great family getaway

 by  anonymous  on  2008-06-08

When I had booked this hotel, I thought by the looks of the pictures it would be pretty nice.Wrong, this place needs a makeover! The pool was ok, if you can disregard the straws and stuff you find floating in it from the previous night. The food is ok, just don't go to the snack bar downstairs, unless you enjoy paying 7.00 for some Dannon light&Fit. Our Hotel room was small but the beds were comfy, the only thing that really bothered me was an electrical outlet that had exposed wires hanging out,"no joke". Oh and all the rusty railings on the patios really should be fixed up as well. The people at the front desk had recommended this one restaurant, Mi Casita, WOW! were they ever rude! You can really tell they don't like the tourists! But they sure like to take your money! Oh yes, and to top it off we had gone to fish Tarpin in a nearby bay located a little over a mile from our hotel, and as were fishing right over the trees gushots rang out-people were shooting at each other! Our guide said it happens all the time, and onetime a stray bullet landed in the water near the boat he and a friend were fishing in! He said they cut the lines and got out of there! If you really want to stay in San Juan, at least try the one right next door from the intercontinental, I went in there to shop, and that place at least seemed much classier! And if you want to visit Puerto Rico, go to the little island of Culebra, it is so beautiful ! If and when I come back, It will be to revisit Culebra for sure!

Great Spring Break

 by  anonymous  on  2008-05-26

Our family of five, 2 parents and 3 teenagers/young adults, went away together as a family for the first time in five years. We all comletely agreed that this was the nicest hotel we had ever stayed in. The rooms were beautiful and spacious. Every single staff member we encountered was polite, pleasant and helpful. Some staff even played beach volleyball with us! The hotel was well situated in a busy area convenient to restaurants and bus line. We even walked to Old San Juan from the hotel (but I would not recommend doing it in the heat of the day). I would go back tomorrow!
