Excellent location and staff, but hotel is just okay ...
by anonymous on 2008-06-22
The hotel is located a few steps away from a great beach, so location is fantastic. The staff are wonderful, kind and helpful. The rooftop terrace is FABULOUS, with 360 degree views of Isla Verde. The parties at the terrace on the weekends are the place to be! Hotel pool is small, but who cares ... go to the beach! Tangerine, the hotel's restaurant, is overpriced, but aren't all hotel restaurants ... On to the bad news ... our room was a bit run-down. For instance, water from the air conditioning unit seeped into the hardwood floor causing a huge patch of the hardwood floor in front of the A/C unit to turn black and buckle. The blackening and buckling of hardwood floors occurs over a period of time, so I can only imagine how long hotel management has ignored this floor. A few other items worth noting, such as, a cabinet door was sitting on only one of its two hinges; the lever to pull drapes open were broken; window sills were completely black with soot-like dust; the snack bar was in serious need of refill ... something to bring up immediately unless you want to be charged for items you didn't eat ... needless to say, our room was in need of attention and maintenance. Last, and certainly not least, there is no security in the hotel! You do not need to swipe a hotel key to go up and down the hotel elevator or stairs ... anyone can go in and out of the hotel floors. I'm just used to seeing some level of security for guests at hotels ... and most surprised this hotel did not take such steps, given this is Puerto Rico after all!
Excellent location and staff, but hotel is just okay ...

Once again, I've been let down by the hotels in Puerto Rico. This hotel attempted to mimick the Miami scene with the Art deco look, but it was a poor attempt at best. 1. The rooms are extremely small2. bathroom even smaller3. cleanliness is horrible4. television was small and the cable was not functioning properly5. pool on the roof is small, don't be fooled by the photos, the pool is more like a jacuzzi6. dancing on the roof, great idea, if you party until 6:00 AM, but if you try to sleep, forget about it7. wireless internet is a joke8. food and drinks are overpriced
Stay Here if You Like Unconventional Hotels

We stayed at the Water Club for one night before our cruise and thought it was unique, trendy and a fun place to stay. We had a partial ocean view which was a excellent view, the room was something different than you'd ever expect in a hotel, the staff was pleasant and overall it was very enjoyable. We didn't have alot of time there but we did walk out the front door and stroll on the beach, we hung out at a bar on the water for awhile and then went back to the hotel. We spent some time on the roof at the restaurant, had some wonderful sushi, a few drinks and talked to some friendly people who seemed to enjoy there stay as well as we did. The blue color throughout the hotel was interesting and fun, the water in the elevator was something we've never seen. All in all the hotel was clean and somewhere we will definately go again. We travel several times a year and stay at hotels in all price ranges and the water club is now a favorite of ours.
Excellent location and staff, but hotel is just okay ...

If you are into details, this is not the place for you. It looks like a chic clublike hotel but what you really get is cheap furniture that is cracking and peeling away, a cheap zenith TV that you had when you were 5 that is all static anyway and a bathroom that floods no matter what you do. Walking in is a nice experience, the staff is friendly and helpful. There is water art that makes you feel relaxed on each floor. What you don't know is the sound from the water will keep you up all night since it really just sounds like the shower was left on. The bed was very comfortable and the beach was directly across the street. That is the only good experience. The modern bathroom has a shower that only has half a door so when you turn the water on if floos the bathroom floor, when you turn the sink on it splashes out the sink, again getting all over the floor. That toilet was stained with I don't even want to know what. The floor was tile and felt like it hadn't been washed in weeks. All in all, I was not comfortable, overpaid for the room and felt like it would have been better at a holiday inn.

The reviews I read toted the lobby as a piece of old San Juan, but I found it way modern. All walls and furnishings white and lit by black light with water running between sheets of class almost everywhere, including the elevators, which have roofs covered with transparent plastic so you can look up at the white black light lit shaft while listening to the a-bit-too loud Latin music. Lots of gauzy white curtains with black light shinning on them, including the room. Which had a good ocean view but only a small half height closet. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat, about 10 minutes from the airport and right on the beach. They provide beach chairs and umbrellas for free. Only valet parking is available and it is slightly pricey at 20.00/day. A few free spaces are available on the street about a block away but often they are all taken. The food at the restaurant was good. The restaurant and roof bar feature loud recorded music but did not seem to have that many customers. Renovations are taking place on some floors, so be sure to ask for a quite room.
Nice Hotel

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. He HATED it, I didn't mind it. While the staff is very friendly, the hotel is unique. This is not a conventional hotel. The hotel is very funky with blue lights and white sheer curtains all over the place. They play loud techno/European music all day (and night) long. It is right on the beach. The king-size beds are VERY comfortable. The only thing to do at the hotel is go to the open air club upstairs. You can hear the music blaring from it all the way down the street! The toilet flooded on our last day there, but the staff was really good about cleaning up the water quickly. The 2 elevators run very slowly and it is extremely stuffy in the hallways. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but is very expensive. Overall, it was an OK experience for me, but I doubt we will ever stay in this hotel again. It's just the opposite of traditional.
