I have stayed in alot of Hotels throughout the world and always read other hotel reviews. We found this to be a little gem the room we stayed in was neat and clean. All brand new furiture, large T.V. the gym had also all brand new gear. Very close to the shopping area and market without the noise with the double paned windows.... Thanks for the great stay..... PS my husband said great breakfast.

Nothing historic here just an old tired hotel with rude staff

 by  anonymous  on  2008-02-24

In the past I have stayed at the Marriott and Hilton hotels in downtown Anchorage. They're nice - and just like Marriotts and Hiltons everywhere else. IF that's what you want, good for you. However, the unique and downright grand experience and stay I had at the Historic Anchorage Hotel was exceptional. Yes, when you see "historic" in the name you know that the building has been around for a bit - don't let that sway your decision. I was very pleased with the rooms, the environment, and the cental location of this hotel and will never stay anywhere else in downtown Anchorage. The staff and management were wonderful, accomodating in ways that exceeeded my expectations and experiences at much larger hotels. They made great recommendations, booked reservations and were genuinely interested in me as a customer. They went out of their way to insure that my stay was a good one and were attentive to any needs. As a matter of fact - after I checked out to travel to Fairbanks and Nome for a few days, I chose to cancel my planned stay at a different Anchorage hotel to return to the friendly and comfortable Historic Anchorage hotel. And I have already booked my stay for 2009. Treat yourself to something unique, historic and memorable.

This old hotel is very overrated. The locationis good, except there is no parking except in a city parking lot (pay of course). The rooms are small and outdated. The staff needs training on hw to talk to guest.Lots of street noise. Would not stay here again.

The location is very good. Everything else is sub-par. The only other review on this site must have stayed somwhere else because this hotel is surly not excelent in anything. Rude desk clerk. Bed not made, wet towels in the showe, no TP, had to call desk 4 times before getting any.Maybe they are only on top of the game in the summer whene they are getting way too much money for the rooms. Was going to stay there a week but left after the first and went next door to the Hilton.

This hotel is wonderful. The location in downtown is great for when you return at night you can go places and not have to drive. Resturants and night spots are close. The hotel staff is great. They are very helpful. It is great to stay somewhere that is not a sheetrock box.
