We had reserved a room on the club level (17th floor); I stupidly assumed a 'balcony' meant I would have a sliding glass door and access to some fresh air....

They run this place like it opened this morning. I'm giving it an extra star because the bed is admittedly comfortable. Unfortunately that can't overcome...

I had hoped that things would have gotten better over the past year...but they haven't. They got worse. The elevators were horrible and couldn't use the stairs (what about a fire?)

Overall, my room was clean and newly renovated. However, I found myself in "The Twilight Zone" soon after my stay. They agreed to split the charges and place half on my co-workers credit card and the other half on my credit card. We both received receipts upon checkout, which had the correct charges; however, when I received my credit card statement they charged my card twice (on two different dates). I talked back and forth to them and their corporate office but they failed to admit fault or refund my money. They claimed that they only charged me and I would have to get my co-worker who shared the room to contact them to authorize the removal of this amount, so they can place that half on her credit card. HOW CRAZY DOES THAT SOUND?! They pretended not to have her contact information although I stood right there when she gave them all of her information plus her credit card--not to mention she received a receipt from them. I eventually, filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they still responded that they stand by their decision not to refund my money. I was furious because by then I had my credit card statement and my co-workers statement to prove that we were both charged. After threatening to seek legal action, they finally removed the charges from my account. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. They are incompetent with extremely poor customer service. They refused to admit fault, kept making up excuses for why I was charged twice, and were determined to make me pay for their mistake. I was extremely disappointed and would never recommend this hotel for that reason alone.

We had a lovely view of the a/c units out the window, and a remote control that no matter what button you pushed would only change the channel down (big inconvenience). You would think for a */night hotel, they would have a remote that worked and free parking. Very disappointed and definitely would not stay here again. Stayed in a Comfort Suites on the way for 80/night which was a lot nicer.

My room was fine, but you might not be so lucky. The hallway in other areas of the floor where I stayed weren't clean and smelled quite bad. Also: my room commanded a view of the atrium, with no exterior views. I didn't know this was a possibility, and certainly wouldn't have chosen it had I known. The staff wasn't rude, but they weren't helpful either. I was struggling with more than usual baggage when I checked in, but no one at the door offered to help me. I was given poor directions to my room (don't laugh?it's a very large facility!), told there was no drugstore within walking distance when there was, didn't get more coffee or bottled water in my room after the first night, had to pay for slow internet service in my room...these are not terrible things, but at the price, I think a traveler should expect the niceties to all be in place. And had I been unlucky enough to have a room in the dirty areas...I can't recommend this hotel to people visiting Birmingham.

I booked this place with an expectation that at close to * per night that I would get quality on par with the price. In reality this hotel is poorly maintained and dirty. There are groups of people who like to hang out in the atrium until 230 AM and the sound will actually carry all the way up to the 16th floor. The room was at the level that I would expect at Motel 6, which is a disapointment when you consider the costs. The room had furniture that looked as if it had been in the room since the opening of the Hotel over 30 years ago and it was in the expected condition, scuffed and shabby looking. The bathroom floor looked very dirty and nasty, and it was obvious that the hotel has only had minimal updates since it opened decades ago. The reason this place is so disipointing is that you expect far more from a hotel of this chain, and to be blunt, you get far less than cheaper hotels here. For this price, I will either stay at the Marriot or the Galleria next time I am in Birmingham, If I want something on parr with this hotel as far as quality, I'll save money and stay at a motel. After staying here I felt incredibly cheated, fortunately I was fortunate to have decent company otherwise, the stay would have "sucked"...I will never stay here again.

This hotel is so big that by the time you make your way around it you won't have any energy left to see Birmingham. The dining options though are very limited and VERY expensive. I had room service once--pasta with meatballs, side salad, diet coke and a piece of cake--and the bill was just over 50!!!! The main restaurant is acceptable, even quite good, but very expensive. The only other option is a sports bar. There is also one small cafe but it is never open. For a hotel that holds about a billion people, these options are far too limited.
