My family and I found it to be very nice. If you are a light sleeper you may want to ask to be on the parking lot side of the building that used to be a mill or in the main part of the hotel due to the noise of the trains, but, I didnt find it very disturbing but someone who is a light sleeper may. We thought that it was very neat how they repurposed an old building and made it into something useable. The breakfast left a little to be desired, and unlike many La Quinta inns they did not have to make your own waffle thing which was a disappointment to the kids but over all very good value and pretty close to everything about 15-20 min to major attractions and beaches.
Nice beds and clean room but rather far from the boardwalk. Good access to Highway when leaving Santa Cruz.
This was one of the worst hotel stays we've ever had in our 30+ years of travel. Where do I begin??? Front desk was not helpful at all and had an I don't care attitude, promised extra towels never got them among other things, noise was terrible from outside and from inside adjoining rooms, room air conditioning was noticably not accurate and nothing could be done to increase the fan speed (to help drown out the noise outside our rooms) AND even though we tried in BOTH rooms to set the A/C at the lowest setting of 65 degrees, it was obviously still well over 70 and hot all night long, hotel is right next to the highway and construction all around from the highway entrance ramp to the hotel parking lot! Breakfast was a joke, too few tables, not much food, coffee was gone, breakfast room arrangement was awful and didn't allow for people to work around each other...it was just a congested mess for everyone....very frustrating. Clogged sink and bathtub, ended up showing in dirty standing water....very gross. I could go on and on but don't risk staying here. We've stayed in all brands and types of hotels over the years, this was almost the worst.
the only non-smoking rooms they had were ""near"" the train tracks.. i could literally throw a rock at the train from my room! my bed shook every half hour! this hotel is loud and oddly put together.. elevators don't work and the continental breakfast is really lacking! was there for a week for work and they could never accommodate a move. don't stay here if you want to relax or get a full night's sleep. just awful!
Kids had a room in the old bean elevator -- hexagonal, concrete walls, wonderfully quiet. They loved it.
While the rooms are interesting, if you are planning to sleep through the night I would suggest another hotel. The staff will tell you the train only runs a couple of times throughout the night but in actuality it is EVERY hour! If you stay plan on taking some sleeping pills so you can be comatose!
Good Hotel for the price
