This hotel is a MAJOR disappointment and I can't urge you strongly enough to book your reservation elsewhere. The location is right next to the highway - as in I could throw a rock from our balcony and hit the highway. I asked the staff for a different room and they claimed there weren't any other rooms that didn't face the highway, yet "reassured" me that the noise dies down significantly at night. What a joke - the noise never ceased. The suite size is incredibly small and we could hardly squeeze our Pack 'N Play portable crib in the room. Also, the door separating the bedroom from the living area is glass, so if you plan to put your kids to sleep and then watch TV, read, or keep any kind of light on in the living area, don't plan on it because the light and noise go directly into the bedroom. The bathroom is so small it required a sliding pocket door that hardly worked. There is literally no counter in the bathroom. The hair dryer is even stored in the bedroom's closet due to lack of space! Incredibly inconvenient and cramped. Check-in took several minutes and while I was, yes, given warm chocolate chip cookies, I would have much preferred to have a friendly representative. Instead, the front desk staff was stand-offish and, frankly, too busy conversing amongst themselves to help the several of us waiting to check in. Room service was also a disappointment. The breakfast was decent, but took 50 minutes to deliver! Only after we placed a second call to find out where out food was did the food actually arrive. And did I mention the daily 22 parking fee? You will pay this regardless of whether you valet or self-park. STAY ELSEWHERE.
This hotel is very clean, appears/feels very new, luxurious towels, super comfortable beds, great amenities from Wolfgang Puck coffee to shampoo & cond. The front desk makes incredible chocolate chip cookies for the guests. The guest suites are perfect for a family traveling with children. We have twins and had room in the sleeping area for 2 pack and plays provided by the hotel. The sitting area has nice couch & chairs, fridge, wet bar TV and patio. The hotel is "all valet", which was convenient, we just had to tip, but some hotels charge 20 a day! The beach is only a short walk away, although the closest beach area has a hill built up by the waves. You cross the road & walk through a State Campground to get to the beach -- not that bad, we did it with 2 yr olds & a 5 yr old. We drove to the beach in San Clemente off of Trafalgar St, for free parking & a flat beach. Great restaurant on that pier called The Fisherman. Dana Point Harbor has nice seafood restaurants & shopping. We would stay there again. Some of the other hotels seem much older and musty.
Checked in at 11PM following long day of flying from east coast. Had specifically requested room with 2 double or queen beds. Were assigned a room which was unacceptable for us and to make matters worse the A/C was not functioning... so first nite was very uncomfortable with room temp of 80+ degrees and staff unable to help. Manager gave us breakfast voucher and an oceanview room the next day. Rest of stay was OK but would definitely not risk another stay here with other options in the area. Furthermore tried to contact Travelocity to resolve situation at check-in (as in TV ad) and was put on hold and unable to talk to anyone.
Hotel lovely but parking too expensive....20 per night is quite out of line for suburbia type setting.
The hotel was accomodating as far as an early check-in. but upon checking into our room and relaxing on the bed, I fould a termite crawling on me and several under the bedspread. Found more under the bathroom sink. I also had an allergic reaction from the amount of dust in the room. Workers were refinishing furniture outside our room so this could have contributed to the air quality. The hotel was listed as having been totally renovated but in fact, it was still under renovation.
