Two things you should know: no air conditioning and no elevators. If we had known, we wouldn't have stayed there. After we lugged all our gear up the stairs to the room (we're senior citizens with some health problems), we found that the thermostat on the wall said it was 78 degrees in the room, too hot for sleeping. I looked at the thermostat trying to figure out how to turn on the A/C. It didn't have a setting for A/C, so I called the front desk. They confirmed what I had by then suspected -- no A/C. (The other poster who said the A/C is loud is wrong, there is none. Perhaps they meant the heat.) They offered to bring up a fan and we accepted. We had only made one request when we called to make our reservation -- a quiet room. The problem we had with the fan is that when we opened the door to the balcony for the fan to exhaust the room air, the car noise from the street outside our room kept us awake. And it was too hot to sleep with that door closed. As another poster mentioned, there is no one at the desk after 10:30, so if you arrive (or come back to the hotel) after that time, you have to make arrangements to get in.

My husband were looking for a quiet bed and breakfast style hotel and we found it! The Eagle Inn was wonderful. Our room had a large whirlpool tub, a fireplace, an a dual head shower. It was perfect for our weekend getaway. When we arrived to our room, we found a path of rose petals in the room leading to the whirlpool tub along with a vase with red roses. There was a little basket of water, chips, chocolates, and fruit as well (free of charge!) The room was also incredibly clean and very nicely decorated. The hotel was was in very close proximity to State St (where many of the town's restaurants, bars, and shops are located) as well as the wharf and the train station. We arrived via train and did not need to rent a car or hire a taxi at all. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and if we ever return to Santa Barbara, would probably stay there again. I would suggest, however, that if you decide to indulge in a spa treatment with the spa the hotel works with, that you make the appointment yourself. We inadvertently found out that if you have the hotel book your spa treatment, they add a 10-20 surcharge.

Disappointing stay after reading the description of the Inn. Mold on bathtub tiles, disabled (missing!) smoke detector in room, bed sheets spotted with strange black marks, no one mans front desk after 10:30 pm: you're on your own.

What a find! It is a lovely secluded place a couple blocks from the busy beach area. It has a very small, quiet, european feel with lots of little extras.

my first impression of the inn was "wow, it's very clean" i liked the decor of the rooms and the entire inn very much as well. you can tell someone put a lot of effort into it. but what put it above and beyond was when i walked into the hallway after checking in, there were tea/coffee and cookies for the guests. little things like that showed the people at the inn really cared. i am most impressed with the cleaniness and the entire feeling of the inn. i think it can compete with the 4/5-star hotels i usually stay at. the only thing that i think can use some improvement was the continental breakfast. afterall, this is a "bed and breakfast", so the quality and selection for breakfast should be better. the only thing i can really eat were fruits. everything else was just high calorie pastries and dairy (i'm lactose intolerant). i think maybe some scambled eggs or protein of some sort will improve it. another thing was the AC unit. it is REALLY loud. but fortunately, it was cool enough i didnt' have to turn it on too much.what i would recommend is to get a room with balcony and whirlpool tub. it really makes or break the experience. i was able to get an upgrade when i asked for it for just a little more money. overall, i was really happy with the place. it's really cloes to state street and the wharf. it's decently priced, and it's one of the cleanest room i've stayed at.

This hotel/inn was amazing. We arrived late at night and were shown our room and we were amazed. we got the suite and it was beautiful, with a jaccuzzi and big beds and a fireplace with a small kitchenette. It was a little pricey and there was no elevator to get to the second floor so we had to carry our bags ourselves, but thats what you get for a small inn type place. howeever the place was very clean they had a nice little breakfast in the morning, they had free DVD's at night and it was only 2 blocks from the water but a little far from town. Either way the place was very romantic and worth the money if you could splurge!
