not the fanciest, comfortable, GREAT location......third time staying here!

 by  anonymous  on  2007-10-08

The room right above us on the 3rd floor had a VERY leaky drain pipe and the ceiling above our shower was about to fall in the day we checked out. The pipes are loud and we were awakened at 1am our first night because someone was running water and it sounded like a jet engine revving up inside the wall. The refrigerator froze our sodas and the dial to adjust the temperature was broken so we couldn't turn it down. The building is not well insulated and is poorly made so you can hear every single footstep, no matter how light, over your head in the rooms above you. The hot tub looked clean but the area it is in it not appealing and it quite barren and ugly, like it was sitting in the middle of a parking lot or something. One unsettling thing we also noticed was that the elevator's permit appears to have expired in March 2007!

We stay at The Otter Inn at least 5 times a year. We love it. The staff is the best. We feel like we are coming back to our second home. We usually get the same room everytime we stay and all our reservations are made at the best restaurants.

 by  anonymous  on  2007-09-03

Check-in and Check-out the smoothest I've ever experienced in my 30 years of travel. Room was neat and clean. However, toilet flush broken and TV remote did not work. We brought the problems to the attention of the staff and quickly had each problem fixed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The whole place is clean and well maintained. The price is better than what you would expect located so close to the aquarium and Canary Row. However, the price is high compared to other motels and Inns a few miles away. When you factor in driving and parking rates, it becomes a better deal. The convenience of the Inn is a plus. We're planning on returning to the Inn in November for another mini vacation. When you visit Monterey and the aquarium, you must stay at the Otter Inn at least once.
