After looking at several hotels in San Francisco, my wife and I booked the Orchard Hotel based on the many positive reviews it received on Travel online and elsewhere. The hotel is located just 2 blocks away from Union Square and a few steps away for the cable car line. For the most part, the hotel is in a great, central location. The only bad part about the location is that it seems like it is on the top of a hill so you are always walking uphill from all directions to get to it. Checking in was quick and easy. We were told that free breakfast was not included in the rate we booked which was a little disappointing. But we booked with a pretty low rate so it doesn't surprise me. The room was about average size, although much larger than the type of room you would get in cities like New York. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. The hotel also provides free WI-FI Internet access, which was a plus. I did notice that the A/C didn't seem to work very well. Overall, considering the location, the price, and the quality, I'd say it is a good place to stay.
This hotel has everything I look for when traveling. It was very clean, and quiet. The rooms are well sized for two people and the bathrooms are beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. In many way this is what you would expect from an excellent, old fashioned hotel. There isn't a pool or business center (although there is wifi in every room), just nice rooms in a great location. The fact is you won't need all of those extras. San Francisco is such a fantastic city with so much to do. The Orchard is perfectly located steps from the Powell street cable car, and a few short blocks from subways, busses and trolleys. A short walk gets you to what must be the best Chintown in the US. Don't bother to bring a car, you won't need it. The housekeeping staff does a terrfic job, and the doorman and desk people were very helpful with directions to various restaurants and services. My only suggestion (it's minor) is that the shower water pressure could have been a little higher. For me it was fine but my wife would have liked higher water pressure to rinse the shampoo from her hair. Like most hotels these days the Orchard employs high efficiency lighting and water widgets. All in all our stay was truly excellent, and we would absolutely stay at the Orchard again.
Wonderful facilities and service. Easy access to/from freeways, shopping, good dining, etc.
Our family of four had 2 adjoining rooms at the Orchard. When we arrived, only one room was ready, so we stored our luggage in there. The housekeeping staff did their best to get the adjoining room ready for us so that we wouldn't have to take one down the hall. Only drawback was that the restaurant was closed for renovation while we were there, but they still served European breakfast in the morning. It's on a very steep hill coming from Union Square, but is on the cable car line so you can ride that up!
My wife and I enjoyed everything about this hotel--spacious rooms, good service, fantastic location and a great breakfast. The room was very nice--large with a great bed. Many restaurants in all directions. Highly recommend!
