The Lime Tree is a good value for the Keys at *. I found the Lime Tree to be quiet and quite relaxing. There is not much to do in the immediate area as the resturant next door (Little Italy), although quite good, closed early. Not much activities unless you want to drive to Islamorada or Marathon, but if you want to have a quiet place to relax, this is it.
Stay here if you like bed bugs! I had so many bites, it was crazy! The stench from the gulf was overpowering. The room had been remodeled and it was ok, as was the pool. The staff was helpful, but I just can't get passed the bedbugs. I didn't know that my brother stayed there in 2006 and had similar feelings. I wish he had warned me because it's not cheap!
I found the Lime Tree Bay Resort to be quiet, beautiful, and staffed by very kind and helpful people. There were no problems with insects, and while the accommodations may not measure up to those used to staying in a five star hotel, it was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The location is idyllic; there is a lovely view over Florida Bay framed by coconut palms, and there are plentiful hammocks, benches and tiki huts from which to enjoy the sunset. I also found that Long Key was a great, centrally located place from which to embark on explorations of the rest of the keys. The only drawback when I was there in May of 2007 was a mat of seaweed that had collected by the pier and begun to rot, letting off a bit of a stench when the wind was right. It was certainly not bad enough to keep my away from enjoying the view, however. I definitely plan to stay here again when I come back next year.
The room has a skylight over the bed that you can't cover so you can't sleep after the sun comes up - ridiculous design! Mirror for the sink is over the toilet instead of the sink! Furniture is old and beat -up looking. Way overpriced for what you get!
Spacious cottages serenely nestled among fruit trees.
