We got a clean and modern condo. with an amazing view The lobby was full as we were with the MS bike event. They were nice a friendly. The staff answered all questions we had.I would stay there again.
KNEW WE WOULDN'T ARRIVE UNTIL 8 OR 9 PM, SO CALLED ABOUT 3 TO CONFIRM RESERVATION FOR 2 BEDROOM SUITE. ARRIVED TO FIND THEY HAD GIVEN OUR ROOM AWAY AND PUT US IN A ONE BEDROOM WITH A PULL OUT SOFA THAT HAD A HUGE HOLE IN IT AS THE FRAME SUPPORT WAS BROKEN. BALCONY WAS TOO SMALL. THE NEXT NIGHT THEY MOVED US TO A 2 BEDROOM BUT VIEW OF OCEAN WAS MINIMAL. STARTED CALLING FOR TOWELS, WASHCLOTHS, AND COFFEE SWEETENER ABOUT 9 AM ON LAST DAY AND THEY FINALLY BROUGHT THEM AFTER THE THIRD CALL AT ABOUT 1050, AND CHECK OUT IS 11. STAFF WAS UNSYMPATHETIC TO OUR ISSUES. WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN SIMPLY BECAUSE STAFF AND SERVICE WAS POOR.
This is a kid-friendly resort, so it's not real quiet or relaxing at the pool. Even though there are signs prohibiting children from being in the hot tub, I never had a chance to go in because the kids took it over as a kiddie pool. (Also, note to staff: you need to stay on top of the pool towels!! We had to hunt them down every day!!) The beach is not fantastic for swimming, but it's very pretty to look at. There are several buildings spread throughout the complex so depending on which building you are in, you may have a bit of a hike to get to the pool or the beach. I wished there was a bar or restaurant on site, but there is not, only a little snack bar. I was surprised at no daily maid service, but I'm not complaining for the price we paid!! Overall it was very nice, safe, and clean. The views from the rooms are spectacular. The prices were very reasonable. I definitely recommend for families with children.
I have now stayed twice at Ocean Pointe. First of all, if you want to be near everything and have great views, make sure you book building 4 or 5, otherwise it is quite the hike to the beach, pool, office, etc. These are apts. owned by individuals, so everyone will vary, ask to see a couple when checking in, then decide. My main complaint was in building 5, where the bed was just awful. The owners should really be required to put in decent mattresses if they wish to rent out their unit. You just can't beat the value if you are pinching pennies. Once they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom, and it was huge. The last visit was a one bedroom, lovely, but the bed was horrible. There is no real restaurant here, but you do have a nice free breakfast, juice, coffee, cereals, muffins. This is a gated complex. Very safe. The pool is lovely. The beach is not a swimming beach...dirty seaweed, etc. I would book again because of the value.
Stayed for four nights w/ a scuba travel group. All three suites were nicely furnished and clean. Our suite even had an "owners plaque" asking visitors to treat the place as they would their own. Each bedroom had its own bath w/jacuzi; one was king bed, other was queen. LR couch was sofabed. Some other suites have twin beds in the second bedroom. We even had a flat screen wall tv w/dvd player. Yes, balcony was TINY. Beach is not for swimming--too shallow and bottom is covered w/seaweed, but all we wanted to do was lie on lounge chairs after a half day of diving. Quiet, off main room. No fitness room, but if you walked/jogged around internal roads, each lap was a mile. Each bath had three bath towels. I wasn't thrilled after reading the views before arriving, but it pretty nice for our purposes. The windows in bedrooms against the outside passageway had blinds, no curtains, and the security lights made the rooms almost as bright as if lit by moonlight. That was my only complaint. Again, it depends on which rooms you get, as each unit is individually owned and rented through the management company.
The overall grounds of the resort were very nice, clean beach and big pool. The veiw was good, however the balcony was very small. The room had a musty ordor, I used a scented candle to cover the smell. When we arrived the room had only two very small bath towels (kind like the size at the YMCA). I was able to get a bath mat, some hand towels and a few wash clothes from the front desk. Those should have been in the room. The advertised fully equiped kitchen was missing most of the very basic items. We did have four plates, four forks and knifes, but not many gadgets to help with basic cooking. No hot pads to get the pan out of the oven, no easy way to wash any of the dishes (there was a dishwasher, but no soap for it). No plug for the sink, kind of hard to wash the four plates, 2 pans and 6 glasses! BRING YOUR OWN STUFF! Also bring some mold killer, you will need it for the bathroom. Don't stay unless you really like small beds jammed into a even smaller bedroom. I can only compare thsi to other condo resorts that I have stayed at and this is the bottom of the line. Hopefully they will fix up the insides to match the outsides.
