The service from everyone was great. The rooms were a little outdated, but they are kept very clean with housekeeping twice a day. The food was awesome and you can't beat the views. The beach was wonderful, get there early to get a chair and umbrella. We saw lots of fish snorkeling and several turtles! We would stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing getaway.
I have always gone to the Big Island to chill. Hapuna Beach has always been a favorite spot. Since the hotel was built I have been curious about it. The place pretty much exceeded my expectations and gave me several perfect days. For me it's pretty much all about the location. It's a pretty long drive into Kona and there can actually be traffic so if you are looking for a family vacation with tons of activities, this is not for you. It's actually a good location on the Big Island to tour from if you rent a car. 1.5 hours to Hilo, passing incredible scenery makes a great day trip. Get adventurous and add a trip to Volcano Park, although you might want to make that a stay over, driving back by the Southern route. There are not a lot of food choices at the hotel and expect to pay . But the food is good. Plenty of food choices nearby in Waimea or Kona if yuo wnat to take the drive. Get an Ocean View Room. It's all about Hapuna here, folks. Not enough words in this review. The pool is awesome as well. It is a huge "infinity" pool with a view of the ocean. You can also walk along the Shoreline Trail to the Mauna Kea (or drive there) and their incredible beach. All amenities are shared. The staff was perfect. Very friendly, accomodating, and unobtrusive. You can't ask for more. Try the Reef Lounge at sunset while a Hawaiian trio play for a world-class sunset and you sip your favorite drink with the sound of the surf in the background. It's winter and it's 78 degrees.
Location is beautiful, one one of the best beaches on the island. Ocean view room was wonderful. Very quiet relaxing atmosphere. Service was impeccable. Dining options, however, were disappointing - very overpriced for what you got. This was the only negative but will not keep me from going back.
The Hapuna Beach Resort is on a beautiful beach isolated on the Kohala coast. This makes for a fantastic beach/water experience but not much in the way of dining choices. We arrived before the room was ready (2:30) so we thought we would have lunch. No resturants open, nothing available other than a pre-packaged sandwich shop. Once we got into our room we found it very nice, double sinks and tub and seperate shower made for quick mornings. Some peeling wallpaper and such but mostly a very nice room with nice ocean/pool view. Breakfast room service was wonderful. Very helpful staff and quality food. Dinner at the steakhouse at the hotel was OK but indifferent wait staff and no tablecloth for a * dinner for two was not as nice as it could be. Be sure to rent a car and get around. Kona (30 min) has lots of places to eat. Overall a very nice place to get away and relax. We are planning our return now!
This is a beautiful hotel with an excellent beach. The maids were exceptional but getting good information about the available activities needs improvement. The dining was extremely expensive and left us feeling hungry.
