We were unexpectadly surprised. The house was on the end of a quiet drive with lovely flowers and yard. We were not greeted as we arrived very late. The directions we were given were very good. The misc. breakfast items were a nice treat. The eggs, toast, jelly etc. were very welcome. The closeness of the Volcano National Parks was one mile and very easy to get to. There were a couple of local restaurants within a mile or two. The Lava Rock Cafe was a local place on Old Volcano Road. Simple dining but good food. There were a few other places near by on the same road and they were very busy. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hale Pikake Cottage and if in that area again we would definitely stay there again. Be prepared with a variety of clothing. The weather is indeed very changeable so depending on the time of year you may need a light rain jacket but the weather gets sunny just as randomly. We enjoyed the nice big tv in the living room and did use the gas fireplace as the morning was chilly. If you are looking for a nice get away do consider the Hale Pikake as a good place to get away from the busy schedule that often times accompanies a holiday vacation. This being an older home we found to be very quaint, that is very hard to find.So don't look for brand new and fancy but look to find a very nice and comfortable place with alot of charm and a bit of older Hawaii as it was meant to be.

Kilauea Volcano Cottages is wonderful place to stay.. I just came back from my 2nd stay there, and I had a great time again. This time I stayed at the Honeymoon Cottage, which was just a perfect romantic place to stay. I had a fantastic time with my girlfriend. ..and sitting in the private Jaccuzzi under the tree ferns at night.. just magical .. I will definately stay there again next time. Great Service, Great People, Great Ambience.. and definately great location.. right next to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, my favorite place to visit.
