huge king size bed lots of nice pillows. the whole room was big, bathroom was wow big, and the living area was seperate from bedroom with comfy love seat and 2 additional chairs. Tv in both living room and bedroom. only thing we didnt like was that the channels on the TV looked to be cable we had like 15 channels and 11 of them was news related all the time. when you take a shower that want you to use your towels twice before they changed them, was weird but we understood.
My daughters and I stayed at the Silversmith for a getaway. The location is just a few steps from the train which we took frequently. It is also close enough to the parks, shopping, theatre, and some of the best restaurants that we were able to walk. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.I would definately recommend this hotel both for it's locaton and staff.
If you're unlucky enough to get a room on Wabash, the L runs by every 3 seconds til 1 in the morning and starts again before 7am. Room lay out was terrible. Internet was terrible. No wireless, had to sit at an uncomfortable desk to get work done. Dont plan on being able to see the tv if you're working at yoru desk, the room is L shapped, presumably to match the ambiance of the local travel. Dont stay here.
Made pre-paid (required) reservation 7 months in advance for a NON-SMOKING suite for 2 nights at * per night but only suite available is SMOKING - not acceptable. Accepted downgrade to a queen room with rate to be adjusted by Manager (XXX) the following week. After numerous unreturned voice mail messages to Mr X, it is obvious he has no intention of refunding the difference (about */night) nor making any effort to apologize/explain/whatever.
Hotel is conveniently located, but it is on the L. Thank God that I had a room on the west (back) side. Maybe upper floors on east (front) side would also be ok. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a nice cafe / deli on site which is also popular with the local business / office workers. The room was newly remodeled and very nice and clean. I only wish that I had known that access right now is tough because the sidewalks are being reconstructed along Wabash in front of the hotel. It made check-in a little tough. Be sure to ask front desk what is best way to handle check-in if you have a car. If you use the L or a taxi, there should be little problem.
i made a reservation for the silversmith through online travel website and was charged through online travel website for the hotel. i checked into the hotel, was asked for my credit card, and told that because my reservation was made through online travel website, my card would only be charged incidentals. a few weeks later, after my return home and after my checking account was overdrawn, i realized that the hotel had charged me as well. i called them and was put through to the accounting department. this "department" appears to be an answering machine. no one ever responded to my calls and i have called a number of times. i'm now trying to straighten the whole thing out with online travel website . the hotel, staff, area, etc. were all nice. nothing to say against any of that.
