I reserved a 2-bed, 2-bath, non-smoking room a month in advance of my trip. They billed my credit card for a 200 deposit immediately. When I arrived with my 2 girlfriends for the conference they informed me that they "didn't have any more 2-bed 2-bath rooms" so they put the three of us in a 2-bed 1-bath smoking room. They said they'd switch us to a non-smoking room the next day, and they'd let us know when a 2-bed 2-bath room became available. The room smelled awful. The next day they never got in touch with us to change rooms. When we went down to the desk they told us a non-smoking room was available, but it was only a 2-bed 1-bath, not the 2-bed 2-bath room I had reserved. During my 5-day stay I never got a 2-bath room, although I was charged for it when I checked out. My two friends and I all had to share the one bathroom as we got ready each morning. My conference had their formal banquet at the hotel one night. The service for the banquet was totally pathetic. They brought the gravy for the mashed potatoes halfway through the meal. The iced tea didn't make it to the table until after dessert. Very disappointing. Other problems: They charged 12.95/day for the "free internet" they advertised. They charge a fee for using their workout facilities. On the up-side, the hotel is in a great location. Directly across from the Buckingham Fountain. But I feel like I've been scammed with some kind of bait-and-switch.
Took the kids for their first trip to Chicago and all of the family's first trip to Wrigley. It was a very busy hotel with a lot of people coming and going at all hours of the day/night however our room was very nice and the noise was not an issue. No freebies here. Breakfast for a family of four was about *. Parking is sky high. We paid the * extra for a view of the lake but unless you're on the ends which I guess are the executive suites then save the * unless you don't mind 85-90% of your view of the lake blocked by the walls of the hotel itself.
Knowing that the hotel was not in the "heart" of the Chicago "party" area, was a big reason for selecting the Hilton vs. other hotels. Although it was chilly in March, we wanted to be closer to the parks than the parties. I highly recommend this location for families! A 10 cab fare would take the family to the heart of Magnificent Mile without "living" in it....and the weather was actually so nice during our visit that we WALKED from the hotel to the Sears Tower (just over a mile) and also all the way to "The Mile" w/o even so much as a sweat. LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! And a VALUE to BOOT!!! The room we were given was wonderful! LAKEVIEW with TWO BATHROOMS!! Perfect since of the four family members, my wife and 15 year-old daughter would have taken twice as long to get ready with only one!! The Lakeview was bonus, awaking to the sunrise was great! Starbucks coffee in the lobby was a great way to start each morning, and Sam Adams on draft was a nice way to end it---ok, just one night, but it was nice with the NCAA tourny on the TV's at the bar! The hotel itself is so very, very classy and the staff was so nice---I mean, EVERY EMPLOYEE had a smile and "HI"..regardless of position or time of day. All of this for 110 per night!! THANKS TRAVEL AGENCY!!!
This hotel is beautiful and the personnel were so sweet to deal with. They immediately upgraded our room without having to be asked. The room was plenty sufficient and pleasent. It was very beautiful. The beds were comfortable also. The bellman was always ready to help at a moments request and even when you didnt request. I would say if your considering coming here , do it you will not be sorry you did. The pool was nice however one of the hot tubs wasnt working meaning everyone was piling into the other one. But it was good and hot!The only problem I had is there is only Coke machines in the hotel and I am a Pepsi person. But if that was the worst of our problems the we had it made. And we did. We got up very early a couple of times and the hotel people would be pleasent and courtious even then. Wonderful hotel. Will come back!
The kids (13,11,8 and 4) and I wanted to do something fun and different for my wife's 40th birthday,we decided an overnight trip to Chicago to see Wicked (Highly Recomended), would be ideal. I booked the two bedroom suite, with the living room, at the Hilton Chicago( 650 USD) thru online travel website. The room had a beautiful view of the Chicago lakefront and it's museum campus, however, the room had a terrible odor( we had to keep the windows open all night (20 degrees F)). The Lobby of the hotel was more like a crowded airport, people everywhere, very noisy and very difficult with four kids to manuever. Also, the woman behind the check in counters main concern was trying to get us to take the mini-bar key, we declined her three to four times, she clearly was used to dealing with bussiness travelers. If you do decide to stay at The Chicago Hilton, leave your car at home, 45 a night to park.
We stayed at the Hilton Chicago for a week after Christmas and loved it. The room was a bit small but had two bathrooms which made getting ready very easy. The lobby was spectacular and provided hours of fun for my three year to run around and look at all the cool things. The easy access to museums and the loop made getting around easy. Wasn't too fond of the on sight food but there are places around to eat.
