Although the hotel has been attractively remodeled, I had bug bites in the morning. My room was changed the second night.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat! What a fantastic location and quite a romantic and trendy hotel! Staff was wonderful. Views were great and our stay was one of a kind!
I have just returned from my stay at the Allerton. The hotel is in a great location. Staff of the hotel and the restaurant were efficient, somewhat friendly and at times professional. The exterior of the building is wonderfully historic with an "Old Chicago" feel. However, the interior of the building left something to be desired. The check in area is small and looks like they added a desk in the lobby. The elevators are something else! I arrived for a conference and found myself waiting in the small lobby with many others for over an hour waiting for the one extremely small elevator to arrive....after waiting for ever and realizing our conference was starting, we like many others hit the very small, non-air conditioned stair case and trecked up the 23 floor for dinner....The elevators ruined my stay....many, many, many individuals in our conference spent 20 minutes plus stuck in the jam filled elevators....they actually hold 4 comfortable, 5 maybe, but no more, and that's without luggage. You never knew if you were going to walk to your room or maybe get a functioning elevator. I will never recommend this hotel because of that...14 floors is too far to walk up on a daily basis.... Yes, the rooms are beautifully designed, but ours was not maintained well. The bathroom vent had not been cleaned of dust in years. Scuff and pencil marks on the walls. The door trim paint chipped and gouged in many places. Toilet did not flush.....
Recently stayed at the Allerton over the Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is in a great location for those interested in Mag Mile activities. Both the staff of the hotel and the restaurant were very efficient, friendly and professional. The exterior of the building is wonderfully historic with an "Old Chicago" feel. However, the interior of the building left something to be desired. I had an issue with the interior layout. No lobby. The check in area is only accessible by elevator; the notoriously smallish Allerton elevators which, depending on your mood or disposition, are charming and quaint or a living hell (another guest told me he waited 20 minutes for a semi-empty one to arrive). The check in desk is located next to the restaurant on the 2nd floor and appeared to be nothing more than a couple of portable tables stuck in the corner of the hallway. The rooms are beautifully designed, but ours was not maintained well. The bathroom vent had not been cleaned of dust in years. Scuff and pencil marks on the walls. The door trim paint chipped and gouged in many places. Crown molding had been sanded but not painted in places. The room's safe didn't function. These, of course, are just cosmetic issues, but it did have an effect on my impression of the place. For its location and charm I was impressed with the Allerton, but the management needs to concentrate and invest more effort in maintaining this older property before I would give it high marks. Overall, a great historic building and a good hotel which, unfortunately, is showing its age.
Welcome to the old world charm of yesterday! I found this hotel to be quite charming. Great location on the M' Mile. I stayed in the room describe as a petite classic. Yes, the room was small, but was clean, comfortable and very well appointed (flat screen T.V., marble bathroom with glass enclosed shower). Room service was great! I really enjoyed my meal. The only negative was the small elevators. Bottom line, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again.
This hotel is beautiful and the staff are EXCELLENT. However, we did not choose to take advantage of the available room upgrade form "petite" double bed to two single beds...We should have. the rooms, the hallways- evrything about this hotels living area is dramatically small!! The elevators were even 1/3 the size of a normal hotel elevator. With that said, the hotel is a beautiful historic renassance building on Mag Mile in chicago. You can not ask for more than a bigger room!! The price was amazing for what we got. I would stay there in a heartbeat, and the staff were tremendous!
