Nice - not spectacular
We stayed at the W Lakeshore for our anniversary, and booked their version of a romance package (champagne/chocolates/goody bag/late check out)...

We were told we'd have a lake view but oops, they booked up quickly and we lost out. That meant we stared out at the office building directly ...
not enough for the price!
This was a very Ritzy hotel! Not worth the money, room was average, did not like the window or non-locking door in bathroom. Everything was ove...
This hotel was very nice, the staff was excellent and the beds were AMAZING. Our room looked right out to the Navy Pier and there was always a taxi outside waiting to take you somewhere. I do have to say that all of the reviews about the lack of privacy for the bathroom are spot on! You better trust the person you are staying with does not open those blinds at the wrong time :) I would definately stay there again!
I would go back......A note on Parking: To save 10/night on parking drive around the block and park there. In the SAME building there is a parking garage on the other side of the block that charges 36 for 24 hours (no in-and-out parking however) as opposed to 46 at the W. Or you can go one block further North and park in the Playboy building for 36/24 hours. But if you're staying at the W, you probably don't really care about budget anyway.......The lobby is like a mini night club. I did not feel out of place with my child there in the early evening. We sat on one of the couches and lounged for a while and it was fine. After all, it is a hotel lobby. There were other children there as well. But later in the evening its definitely a club atmosphere without the dance dancing. Don't feel intimidated about bringing your kidsbut it is an adult oriented hotel.......You may be awaken after 1am by partiers returning to their rooms....W is a short walk to Navy Pier and the beautiful Ohio Street Beach. Take a Water Taxi from Navy Pier to the Shedd Aquarium, Michigan Ave, or Sears Tower. Just 3-4 blocks away to the heart of the Magnificient Mile / Michigan Ave. The original Billy Goat Tavern is hidden UNDER Michigan Ave if you choose to look. Walk North on Michigan to tons of high end stores. Or the Leggo or Hersey's store for the kids. Walk 5 blocks up Michigan and you'll be at the John Hancock Building.......Lobby bar drink prices: Beer 5, Jack&Coke 8, GreyGoose & Cranberry 11........One "complaint" is that our room smelled strongly like mens cologne, which may have been by design, not sure.
we stayed downtown for an end of spring break trip. the hotel is fantastic though we probably did not get to use the extensive extras the hotel provides (whiskey bar, pool, resturants) we still had a great time. great location right on lsd (lake shore drive) it would be a great place to stay at during the summer since your right next to the water, its also very easy to pickup a cab at. only down falls would be the little privacy in the bathroom and when we there only to elevators were wotking out of six and that s**** when you in a 30+ story building but other than that this hotel is ultra modern an updated. for sure will visit again this summer.
As we approached the check-in counter I was already confused. The lobby decor looked like it was purchased from Pier I Imports. Hard, square and no comfort. Room was extremely small. We had to stand aside to let eachother pass from one side of the room to the other. Nice view but you had to stand up to see it through the filthy window. Walls were cracked and unpainted in areas. The decor was nothing to speak of but ugly, the roll down shades were torn the toilet ran on and off all night along with the air conditioner. Basically, it looked like a Holiday Inn with a face lift. Completely overvalued for what you got! We will never go there again!Disappointed
Nice room, I had a great experience specially after I saw my favorite rock band MANA arrive at this hotel. The exploring adventure it's just what I love. Was my first visit to Chicago. Wow this city is magic the buildings are owesome clean streets. I had lot's of fun. I will visit again.
The room is absolutely wonderful, and the bathroom is pretty impressive too. Food in the lobby is hugely overpriced but definitely delicious. Free WiFi in the lobby is a nice touch, and the Bliss products are a huge perk. Bed is supremely comfortable, and the hotel's central location makes it pretty easy to walk places easily. On the downside: In communication with the hotel (by phone and email), the staff were wonderful; in person, however, pretty much everyone I encountered was fairly surly. Check-in took a long, long time, and the fee to use the ATM in the lobby was astronomical (don't bother!)
