This hotel is okay if you only plan on sleeping in the bed. Even though there were renovations going on and I knew the fitness center and the pool would be closed and that there could be noise and disruption I was dissappointed. Not by those things though. The business center computer was unavailable. I felt somewhat unsafe when while standing in the lobby speaking to the front desk clerk about the computer a half dozen men came walking in carrying bottles of liquor and cases of beer. I commented that this must be the party hotel and the the reply was that those were the construction workers. The room was not clean. I'm not talking construction dust. I mean chunks of popcorn and debris under the in-room ventilation system and unknown gunk stuck to the floor to ceiling window. The sheets were fresh, and the room was vacuumed (in the center). The bathroom looked newly renovated with fresh paint and caulking. The toilet however, did not flush properly. Everytime the bathroom paper was pulled for use the whole roll fell off the the hanger. Check in went smoothly with a polite clerk. Perhaps this hotel isn't used to guests checking out, because someone (I assume it was a housekeeper) tried to get into my room in the morning. I yelled from the bathroom and got no reponse. Good thing I had the safety latch across the door. The morning continental breakfast was set up well and the area seemed clean. Overall, it gets two stars.
Most appreciated the staff here. Some snafus at check in, but very helpful in canceling one of our room nights and diligent in helping see a refund through (staff kept paperwork trail for more than two months after our stay when the room *still* had not been refunded by booking service). Used room mostly for sleep only--bed could have been more comfortable, but overall, the room was good size and comfortable. Location is a good mid point between downtown Boston and the North Shore area. Free breakfast bar a plus. Overall good value for the money spent.
I wish I would have stayed at this hotel for the two nights I was in town. I stayed at the Days Inn in Danvers the night before I found this hotel. The Days Inn was more money and a total dump, whereas the Comfort Inn in Danvers was much nicer and a better value. It sets in a quiet area. The hotel front desk people were very helpful with directions & recommendations about resturants in the area.
Front desk staff extremely rude. Whole hotel is in need of upkeep. Pools were very shabby especially the indoor one. Take my advice and find another place to stay
Convenient to Salem (20 minutes). Pricey, but less than Salem hotels. A little tricky to find, but convenient to Rt1. Very clean. Spacious room. Continental breakfast well-stocked with good variety of selections. Helpful front desk staff. Steeply sloped parking lot.
Our first stay was good enough that we reserved rooms right then for when we would be coming back through. However, when we returned, they had no record of our reservation and turned us away. No effort was made to help us find other lodging, or even a map to other hotels. Late at night we found ourselves desperate for a safe, clean place to stay.
