On the recommendation of a friend, my wife and I took the kids for a quick weekend getaway to Sands by the Sea. The location was perfect, an easy walk to everything. Cleanliness is important to us and this place was spotless. The playground and the beach are right across the street. The staff seemed nice and helpful. The swimming pool was brand new with a nice, relaxing waterfall feature. The kids couldn't be pried away from it with a crowbar. Gotta love this place! We have found our little beach escape.

Picked this hotel off online travel website . Seemed to fit into a good price range for what we were looking for. Parking was near impossible. Glad I brought the sports car because anything larger would not have fit. There were very few spaces as well. Walked up to our room, smell as soon you open the door was nauseating. There was an overpowering smell of air freshener and old linens. The room smelled as if it may have been a smoking room at some time and converted to non smoking. The comforter on the bed felt like sand paper. Was nervous turning down for the night, not sure what was going to be on the sheets. The bed was very uncomfortable. The drain in the tub did not work. Overall opinion, hotel needs to be updated. Conveniently located across the street from Short Sands and that was probably the only nice thing I liked about the place. Would not stay here again.

I read good reviews of this place and must say I was very disappointed. The location is good and the managment seemed friendly and the room appeared clean, but unfortunately there were numerous problems. The room was very very small and did not resemble the photos from their site, the mattress needs updating, the bathroom door did not close...it seemed warped, and I have never stayed in a hotel room where a clock was not provided. For two people staying in the room, the hotel supplied us one thin 2x2 piece of soap. We stayed 4 nightss and we were not provided with any more soap. The mattress is old and needs updating and the walls are so thin you can hear conversations from the other rooms. At first when I booked the room, I thought we were getting a room reasonably priced, but after staying there I feel we were charged more than twice of what it's worth. To top it off, we had bites all over us when we got up in the morning. All in all, we tried to spend as little time in the hotel room as possible. We will not be returning to the Sands on the Sea, York, Maine

My family spent an idyllic three days at the Sands by the Sea Motel. The room was immaculate and very quiet. The only possible negative thing I could say was that one of the beds was harder than we would have liked. They have a new pool with a relaxing waterfall. It is lit in the evenings and is so beautiful. The pool is sparkling clean. The location is unbeatable. The view of the ocean and proximity to the shops, Goldenrod, and Fun-O-Rama makes this such a fun place to stay. I stayed here as a child in the 1960's and my fifteen year old daughter loves it just as much as I always did. York Beach is full of charm and has a feeling of yesteryear. Sands by the Sea is a great place for all ages and I wish I could stay there all summer!

Overall you can tell there is something special about this beachside place. Memories are made here and avery convienant location. Staff was pleasant. Two areas of improvement..they need new beds they were more than weathered. The second is that they should ban smoke on the balcony or walk in front of the doors, or have one wing for smokers. Our neighbors were heavy smokers and I had kids (baby). Smoke and babies don't mix.
