My husband and I stayed here this fall and really enjoyed our stay! The location on a huge piece of private wooded land right on the ocean really sets this place apart from the other choices in the area. The Resort is acessed via a long, winding road through the woods that passes a beautiful little pond. The rooms themselves are in several different buildings scattered around the property but which are all situated to take advantage of a spectacular view of the islands and ocean from the balconies. We had a great time taking out one of the complimentary kayaks and paddling around the coastline and there were a lot of other free actvities which most other places would charge for. The new owners seem to know what they are doing as the staff was very professional and friendly. We could see lots of signs of renovation work going on in some of the buildings as well as new landscaping. It looks like some of the prior reviews must have been from the prior owners. I'd recommend this place highly! We're heading back there this summer.

The Ocean Gate has recently been purchased by some real hotel professionals who are actively improving all aspects of this spectacular property. We saw some majors changes since our last visit. It promises to be THE place to stay in the Boothbay Harbor area!

The ""Resort"" isn't 5 star but my husband and I had a great time. You make your own fun and we really enjoyed the canoes, and mini golf and it was a little warmer out we probable would have enjoyed the pool also. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time.
