No ambiance

 by  anonymous  on  2008-02-23

Four of us chose to stay at this location the night prior to attending the boat show at Cobo Hall. The cost was higher than other hotels, but well worth the value in return. We truly enjoyed our stay there and are planning another weekend trip during the summer with my familiy to enjoy the outside areas. The complex has numerous options for dining, plus easy access to more options via the Detroit People Mover. We all felt safe and secure at all hours and areas that we visited. The confort and view from our room was excellent. I found that we enjoyed being in the room as much as touring the city. This place helps to make Detroit a top notch place to visit and I'm looking forward to returning to the Marriott and Detroit in a couple of months!

Awesome hotel, stunning views, incredible architecture. The room as just superb but man did it get COLD. Woke up every hour, heat on - too hot, heat goes off, room freezes. Also don't venture out beyond Greektown or COBO hall and take the people mover - just too many pan handers hitting you up if you venture too far on foot.

I searched long for a nice 2-day stay in downtown Detroit and felt that the Marriott Renaissance Hotel ensured us a comfortable upscale stay, compared to other nearby hotels. I felt the extra cost involved with this Marriott hotel was worth the money, guaranteeing a pleasant experience The Hotel was well-staffed, clean, secure, and inviting. Room service was fast and the food was good. The exercise facilty is nice and general attentiveness by the staff was excellent. The parking garage next door was easily accessible and secure if you perfer to park your own car. I saw other hotels in the area for less money, but they did not have good reviews and in the end it was well worth spending a few extra dollars to ensure a pleasant stay. Also the hotel is within walking distance of Forrd Field (our visit) and Comerica Park if that is your destination. I would definately stay here again and recomend it to others.

We spend the weekend at the Renaissance Center to go to the DSO, we had a marvelous time. The hotel staff was just outstanding in all their efforts.Dining at the top of the Renaissance Center as well as the River Cafe for Sunday brunch was well worth it, food was excellent. Some have wrote of Detroit Downtown as being unsafe, but its no different than Chicago or New York

Not sure this room is worth the full price, but it was worth the rate I paid with a variety of discounts. Smallish room, but you absolutely cannot beat the view of Detroit, Ontario, the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair from the upper floors of this hotel. Comfortable furnishings, spotlessly clean, many dining choices. No indoor pool, though, which surprised me.
