HOTEL STAFF GOLF ALL WONDERFUL. THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE IS THE NOISE. ROOMS ARE HORRIBLY SOUND PROOFED AND YOU HEAR EVERYTHING. PLACE IS ACTIVE WITH ALOT OF PARTIES SO ALOT OF PEOPLE STAGGERING UP TO THE ROOMS LATE AND NO SOUND PROTECTION BETWEEN HALLWAY AND DOOR. IT IS TERRIBLE.
Having a son at Duke has meant many trips to Durham for us. Once we discovered the Washington Duke Inn, we won't stay anywhere else. The staff is delightful and friendly. The meals in the Vista dining room are fantastic. The breakfast buffet is especially good. We have had many lunches in the Bull Durham lounge and enjoyed them all. The grounds are incredible. There is a 3.1 mile trail around the golf course and through the trees right off the hotel parking lot. Since the hotel is practically on the Duke campus, it is very easy to walk to any school activity. Even the Sarah Duke gardens are only about 15 minutes away on foot. There is a very nice pool/ hot tub and of course the golf course. The rooms are beautiful.
THIS RESORT HOTEL IS CLEARLY THE BEST IN DURHAM. IT'S ROOMS AND AMMENITIES ARE DELUXE. IN ROOM DINING OFFERS THE SAME MENU AS THE HIGLY RATED MAIN DINING ROOM AND THE ADJACENT GRILL. THE PUBLIC ROOMS ARE ELEGANT AND THERE ARE PRIVATE ROOMS AVAILABLE FOR GROUP GATHERINGS THAT CREATE A LOVELY AMBIENCE. THERE IS AN 18 HOLE GOLF COURSE ON THE BEAUTIFULLY LANDSCAPED PROPERTY THAT MAKES FOR A COMPLETE VACATION. THE STAFF IS CURTEOUS AND WELCOMES EACH GUEST " HOME". I RECOMMEND THIS RESORT HOTEL TO ANYONE WHO EXPECTS THE BEST WHEN TRAVELING .
Though this hotel is lovely & has a beautiful setting, it is difficult to get a good night's sleep. The problem is w/the doors. They will not close quietly & must be slammed shut to be secure. Not a good thing. However, the biggest problem was w/our meal. Fortunately, I charged it back to our room. When I went to check out the next day, I noticed a discrepency w/what I had signed the night before & what I was being overcharged that day. The young lady behind the counter was helpful in trying to resolve the issue. When she produced the receipt from the night before it wasn't the original! 2 bottles of wine had been added to my bill & someone had forged my signature!!! When I confronted a manager w/ the forged receipt & the document I had signed @ check-in to compare signatures, he wasn't alarmed or apologetic. His attitude was, he would look into it @ his convenience. It took me over a week of long distance calls to them to finally get to the bottom of this mess. It seems someone in the back had "accidently" billed me for 2 bottles of wine instead of another diner. When I finally received my correct bill via e-mail, the wine had been removed from my bill, but that was it. No explanation & just a pat "sorry for any inconvenience". They didn't even have the courtesy to take off 1 lousy dessert! So if you go, bring ear plugs & pay cash for your meals!
