Amenities
A grand masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture, The Mount Washington Hotel was a two-year labor of love for 250 master craftsmen. Conceived by industrialist Joseph Stickney, this National Historic Landmark opened in 1902 and immediately became a favorite summer haunt for poets, presidents and princes. Ever Gracious, Ever Grand throughout its history, the Hotel has been renowned for natural beauty and luxurious extras. Indoor pools, a health spa, Jacuzzi and fireplaces are just a few of the indoor amenities comforting year round guests. The interior decor of the rooms and halls reflect the elegance and sophistication of those who visit and manage the Hotel.

Great Expectations

We had no idea the entire complex was under construction. The entire grounds were covered with earthmovers and mounds of dirt. We were under the impression we had a room reserved in the main historic hotel, only to find upon checking in that we were in another facility on the grounds. We asked the totally unfriendly, unsympathetic and rude front desk clerk to switch us into the main hotel (which turned out to be a bad judgement call), and were given a totally unsatisfactory room on the first floor overlooking a myriad of bulldozers. When we called downstairs another person at the front desk switched us again to a room on a higher floor, but with a nevertheless still unavoidable construction view. The restaurant offered an above average menu, but we were seated the first night next to the bus and wait staff station, and the second night next to a window overlooking cranes and roofers. The rooms were old and decrepit. The television was an old 18" Phillips that couldn't be seen from the bed. We could go on and on but we won't. You get the picture. No apologies. No offer of offsets or compensation. Nothing but a terrible experience.
My husband and I had the best time ever! We want to continue to visit as much as possible. The front desk upgraded us to a tower suite, and we didnt even ask. The views were breathtaking, dinner was delicious and a very professional staff. Horseback riding in the trails was a thrill. The place has a very nostalgic and classic feel to it. Truly a unique experience at the foot of one of New England's most magestic mountains. Even the historic tour was so interesting and the tour guide very courteous. The cave, a bar in the basement, was so fun in atmosphere and in general. The veranda facing Mt Washington was such a neat place to sit in the big comfy rocking chairs and have a snack and a cocktail. A relaxing way to end each day. We had an absolute blast, if it was not so expensive we would go alot more often!!!
