Dave T.

(Rating: 3.0)

I booked via www.getaroom.com. Good Manhattan location, but I couldn't get over the hotel's old-fashioned look. It just seemed too outdated for my taste.

The location, for the price, is unbeatable. The hotel is situated right between The Ritz and The Plaza - but for a lot less money. With the whole "you get what you pay for" in mind - your money is going towards the location and the service, not the decor or any world-class amenities. You can walk about 10 steps out the front and catch a carriage at Central Park, and the subway stations were very close in proximity. The service was really quite fantastic, and the rooms were very decent in size. While the decor is definitely outdated, it was not shabby, or dirty by any means - the hotel is very well-maintained. I was nervous about having kids (5 & 7) at the hotel, but the entire staff went out of their way to make all of us feel welcome.

Please Note: Except for "Room Quality" which I would rate as terrible, I entered the other terrible ratings because the travel websites wouldn't let me continue with my review unless I checked certain boxes. But I have no idea what the fitness facility or meeting rooms looked like. While there wasn't anything technically wrong with this hotel, I hated the decor and the fact that it looked like it was decorated in 1984 and then NOTHING had been done since. It felt stuffy and pretentious. The hallways were especially bad with a gold colored mirrored ceiling, loud carpeting and your grandmother's wallpaper. The bathrooms had plumbing fixtures from the 1980s, too, and the light fixtures belonged in the Smithsonian under American Kitsch. While the location is great -- that's why I picked the hotel -- there's no other reason to stay here in my opinion. I was immediately depressed upon seeing the lobby, and the lobby was actually (all told) one of the nicer parts of the hotel. If you like classy, adult modern try the Parker Meridien; if you like hip modern, try the W, if you want stuffy, old, and dated, stay here.

Loved the hotel and the attentive staff. Elevators were fast. Flat screen tv was added bonus. I would recommend hotel to others.

What a terrific location! We had the best of all worlds being so close to Subway, theatre, Central Park, tour buses, and more. Room comfortable with a few issues. Great responsive staff. Fast elevators. Refrigerator promised for room not there. Very cold until we figured out how to work the fan. Good Internet speed. Lots of thick towels and extras like robes, slippers and morning newspaper. Room price usually high but affordable in lower season. "

Good news? Rooms were spacious with great views. Bad news? Housekeeping was atrocious. They made the bed, but did NOT clean the bathroom, change towels, replace dirty glasses, empty trash or vacuum. After two calls to manager on duty, they did empty the trash. I have never experienced such abysmal service at any hotel, much less a hotel priced at 300+ per night. I guess it would be a good place to stay for one night, so substandard service would not be an issue.

We waited 7 hours for a roll-away cot that never arrived. We requested and were promised a roll-away cot for our 10 year-old daughter at 4 p.m.; at 6 p.m. we repeated our request, it was ""on the way""; at 10 p.m. we returned from a show with a very tired 10 year-old and repeated our request, it was ""on the way"";at 11:15 p.m. -- MORE THAN 7 HOURS AFTER CHECK-IN -- we finally cancelled our request.
