This hotel was referred to us by a co-worker in our home town. He lived in Queens before moving to Atlanta. This hotel is owned by a friend of his family and it was just about what we expected for the money. It is not a 5 star hotel, but it does not come with a 5 star price. It is clean, safe, and comfortable. Its location was great for getting a taxi or the subway. My wife and I did not spend a great deal of time in the room or at the hotel. We came to NYC to see the sites not to spend time in a hotel room. The money we saved we were able to go and see a Broadway play [front row seats] and have dinner at a fine restaurant near Times Square. Each morning for breakfast we would walk only two blocks to Broadway and there were several restaurants nearby. We had a great time at Zabar's. It must be where the friendly locals go each morning and they asked where are you from, etc. One gentleman worked on Wall Street, another was a manufacture's representative, and the other was into art and music. The 82 Street cafe had good home cooked meals. After breakfast we were a short distance to the subway for a day's activities. This hotel is located in an excellent location including Central Park. The next time we are in the NYC area, we will have to stay there again!

Stayed for a few days with my girlfriend. 2 room suite worked out fine. We brought food to have breakfast in the room -- used refrigerator and microwave provided. Hotel is close to Broadway restaurants, train. Never had to take a cab. Nice neighborhood -- felt safe at all times. Staff didn't offer help, but when asked provided relevant info and service: examples are directions, suggestions of good nearby restaurants, plates, cups and utensils, and wake-up calls. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Rooms cleaned each day, no problem. Hotel is minimalist compared to others, but clean rooms, refrigerator and microwave, comfortable beds, convenient, safe location made up for other amenities. My friend and I agreed that we got a good value for the inexpensive price we paid and enjoyed spending the money saved on New York City attractions. We both want to stay there next time we go to NYC.

Small room was expected due to reviews read prior to booking, however, there was not room for 2 to pass each other between bed and wall, my reservation made a month in advance (as it was 4th of July holiday) was NOT on record; the room had leak spots on the ceiling, carpet was very dirty, elevators were not only slow, but VERY small, paper was literally peeling off of walls, staff was rude and not helpful with directions, will stay in NJ next visit.

 by  anonymous  on  2006-07-02

The satff was rude and not helpful with information; they lost my reservation (for a holiday week); paint peeling off of the walls; elevators are small and very slow; dirty walls and carpet. For the price, I didn't expect luxury but my expectations were for a clean room, NOT met. The bathroom was clean, bed was clean and comfortable

 by  anonymous  on  2006-07-02

Despite a wonderful review in the Washington Post, we found this room to smell like the backdraft of a fireplace or fire, paint literally was peeling off the wall and ceiling, and the ceiling had some sort of funky pink fungus growing while the walls had ashy handmarks. The corridor was dark and dank and we checked out as soon as possible. I'll never stay here again.
