Great Location, shame about the smoking room.
This hotel is very conveniently located for Times Square and Fifth Avenue. Lots of things right on the doorstep so cannot fault anything there....
I am not terribly picky when it comes to lodging preferences. Price, cleanliness, and location are the most important attributes for me. This hotel covered all of those very well. The staff was friendly, but did not always follow through on requests. We asked for extra pillows when we checked in and never got them. Had to ask again almost 3 hours later. Asked for 2, got 1. Same with towels. Left a note for the maid, no extra towels. Our room was on the 4th floor facing the street. Very noisy. No double-pane windows here. I would ask for a room on the other side next time. The air conditioner was also very noisy. Fortunately, there was a "temporary" window unit also in the room. Much quieter and kept the room just as cool. I had to talk the maintenance man into leaving it in for our stay. The continental breakfast was fine. Yes it does get boring after a few days, but it's enough to get you going for the day. Compared to rates at most other hotels during our stay, this was a bargain.
You're paying for the location, not for quality here. The decor is dated. The room I stayed in on the 6th floor was dark with little or no natural light . What little natural light entered the room, did so through a filthy window overlooking a fire escape. Not sure what use the fire escape was because the windows were about 4 foot off the floor so only fit and able bodied adults could get out. The windows didn't have any proper sound insulation, so luckily I had brought foam earplugs. The room was otherwise clean and functional. The bed mattress was comfortable and firm. One gripe I had... the hotel said they had nintendo games in each room. What they didn't say was that they'd charge you 8 per hour to play an old Nintendo 64 game which is at least 10 or 15 years old. The "business centre" is past stacks of spare beds in a small office at the rear of the basement, and consists of two dated Windows PCs and a printer/fax. If you're not too fussy, and just need a bed for the night in a central location, it's "adequate".
I liked the hotel. rooms were clean and beds were large and comfy. My room was right near the bar. Bartender was super friendly and so was the front desk staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Times Square area.
We left a very unsatisfactory hotel and remembered my mother stayed here years ago. We were fortunate they had accomodations at a late date which we found on the internet. The location is near Times Square with easy access to everything. The room was clean. relatively spacious and affordable. There was a modest fitness facility I used in the am with a good continental breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We have stayed at some Super 8's in Florida which were not nearly as impressive as this one. This may be the best deal in Manhatten for middle class families.
Great location! Quick walk to Times Square, Grand Central Station and the Theaters. Classy Lobby area. Our room was very clean with all new furniture. Slightly small, but we didn't spend much time there. Elevators were fine...I've been on worse. We'll stay here again next time we visit New York!
We wanted to stay near the theatre district but didn't want to pay 500 a night for a hotel. We also didn't want a roach motel either. This was a good compromise! Rooms were pretty well kept (although a little small, but it's to be expected), and we never had to walk far to anything we wanted. We never took a cab the whole time we were there... visited Rockefeller Center, NBC Studios, and all over Times Square. Even a huge drug store nearby for anything we needed, which came in handy more than a few times. We will definitely stay there again in the future.
