We learned a lesson. When a hotel is booked through Travel website, we need to mention that fact when we check in. We did not get the room we had booked (smoking instead on non-smoking). When we checked out, we were charged for the room, even though it has been prepaid through Travelocity. The room was OK, probably appropriate for the rate we paid.

I have stayed and many hotels and motels. This was was unsafe, as well as filthy dirty. There was food particals all over the comforter. They did change the sheets and comforter when we asked. But it just ruined our visit to the motel. I would never stay there again. It was lke a transient motel. There was a lot of unsavory people hanging around outside. I would warn people what they are getting into.

1. Pool was closed with a tarp on it and beer bottles littering the tarp. 2. Next to strip club. 3. Not near anything to aid a business traveler. 4. Stayed there because of price and near when I needed to conduct business. Expensive for the value.

Before visiting the Howard Johnson, in Commack, NY, I read reviews about it. I read several negative comments, and I was apprehensive about staying there. But I was pleasantly surprised. The outside appearance of the hotel is dated, but the room itself was updated. The room was clean and fresh smelling. The only complaint about the room was a light fixture that was not operational. The staff was prompt and curtious. We would stay there again in the future. It was a good value.
