My Preference in Portland
Although at times a little pricy, the Portland Marriott Downtown is a great hotel with an absolutely wonderful location. A room overlooking the...
Beautiful sight of city and surrounding area with each room having a view that could not be seen by any other guests. Very private. This was our second trip and I must say that I found that the dining room was awful and very expensive. On our last trip, we regularly ate there and food was good, reasonable and atmosphere friendly. In general, I love this hotel because of it's location and friendly staff. However, I had a bit of a problem withhousekeeping changing my bedding once during a seven day stay and I was frustrated with what I felt were extra (and somewhat exorbitant) charges for what I consider basic services in such a luxury hotel, This was a special vacation for me and my daughter as she graduated from college. While we enjoyed the experience, we were disappointed with the lack of amenities we had expected for the price we paid.
We were very disappointed in this hotel. We had a view room on the 11th floor, but it was so tiny it was hard to move around. There was no free wireless and when I questioned this the desk just looked at me blankly. In a town such as Portland, where free wireless is on every corner, I found it offensive to pay an additional 10.00 per night for it in a 4star hotel!!!! The room amenites were more on the caliber of a 2 star hotel, as well. The gym was modern, however, so that was a good thing.
Maybe if you were planning on using the fitness room and other facilities it would be a better deal. We were just staying one night and it seems a bit much for just a room. Beds were good. No parking except Valet or street so plan on extra or leaving it somewhere on the street. We payed, so I don't know how easy street parking is, but it looked like slim chances when we were driving around.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with the room and location of the hotel. The bed, pillows, and linens were so comfortable. Me and my husband loved the flat screen TV. I ordered room service, and it was brought on time, and the food was great. The room was very clean. The view from the room (balcony area) was awesome. We could see the Willamette River and Mt. Hood. We also ate at both of the restaurants in the hotel, and the food was great. The only thing that I wasn't pleased with, was paying * per night for parking at the hotel. I stayed for four nights, so it added up.
Kudos: The hotel is in the great Portland city center with beautiful views of the river and easy walking distance to both the Pearl section and Pioneer Square. The hotel is super clean, the employees friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was excellent (try the strawberry blintzes).Disappointing: We reserved two beds for 3 people and were presented with one bed when we arrived at midnight. It took the hotel an hour to get a portable bed to our room. The room was small to begin with so the portable bed made it really small. There is no closet in the room at all. There is a wardrobe with 7 inches of closet space but its so short my dresses couldn't even hang straight. The toilet broke twice and we had to have maintenance fix it twice. Although the bathroom had nice marble by the single sink, there was no bathtub, only a shower.
The Marriott Waterfront is such a pleasure to stay in. We got a view of the Willamette and could walk the parkway or city streets to most places we wanted to go (Powell's Books, Kells Irish Pub, etc.). VERY helpful and well-trained sfatt and a nice indoor pool/workout area.
