Caution
Don't fall for the glowing description of the Clyde's renovated charms. The room was small and dark with no ventilation and smelled of stale smoke.
I booked what the hotel calls a junior suite for my wife and me. I stayed in the Ace Portland about a year ago in a standard room with bath and was satisfied but thought this time a little more room would be nice for the two of us. The "junior suite" turned out to be smaller than the standard room I had previously. When I asked the front desk about it they insisted it was a junior suite and I must be mistaken about my previous stay. After some bickering they agreed to charge us the standard room rate. The hotel was full so moving to another room was not a possibility according to them. The hotel website is quite vague about what size and what amenities are included with each type of room. Buyer beware! Also, if you are driving, parking is do it yourself in a small lot a block away which fills up quickly. Its as easy to park in another lot and cheaper.
This hotel is post modern and just cute. When my husband and I entered the Hotel lobby there were people relaxing on the couch drinking coffee. Our room was very cute but not all rooms have showers (i think these rooms are less expensive, and there is a shower available on all the floors). The location was ideal, we were 2 blocks from Powells book store and walking distance from the Max train and street cars which made travel around the city very easy and enjoyable. We had a great time. The only bad experience we had at this hotel was some joker pulled the fire alarm at 4:00 in the morning and we had to evacuate the building.
