This was a fabulous hotel! Walking around town and seeing the locations of some of the other nicer hotels, I really think this is the best. Short walking distance to many things-easy to get to the Pearl, waterfront park, Chinese Garden, and lots of good food! Your room is stocked with a huge minibar and free coffee, and if you still need more caffeine, they serve free Starbucks in the lobby every day. I didn't bring a dog myself, but many people did, and yet the place was spotless. They even bring out Art, the resident dog, during the evening free cocktail hour to say hello to all the guests! Very cute. I didn't use the fitness center, but it was of a decent size for a hotel. The decor was very bright and cheery. Concierge is always available for any questions, and they supply each guest with a walking map of downtown upon check-in. Upon check-out, staff will print your boarding pass for you and even arrange transport to the airport. If I ever get back to Portland, I would not even think of staying anywhere else!
The hotel was beautiful and pet-friendly (without being stinky) as well as child-friendly (we have a 1YO). The staff service level was off the charts and the bed was delicious!
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco this past weekend and had such a wonderful time! Part of what made it so memorable is that the staff were so nice and friendly. Upon check-in, the Asst. Night Manager sent up a bottle of wine--which was so unexpected and a welcome surprise. Even the guys working the valet parking were more than hospitable. The rooms were so fun and eclectic--so different than your average run-of-the-mill hotel. With striped walls, a swirled pattern on the carpet, and luxurious drapes--this room was truly one of a kind. I would highly suggest that you stay here when in Portland.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The Hotel Monaco takes the whole experience of staying at a hotel and turns it on its head. Stylish sitting areas, friendly staff, social activities like wine tastings every night, and even the music they play is fresh. And the resident labrador retriever, Art, makes you feel at home.
Poor maid service, bad room location, noise issues from corridors and exterior, poor room entertainment selections, overpriced for the level of service and quality. There is no discernible difference between the Monaco and The Fifth Ave Suites (the original name) and since I was a officer in the construction firm that built the hotel, I have a thorough knowledge of the quality of Kimpton products in the Northwest. This is the worst experience I have ever had staying in Kimpton hotel.
These tiny rooms are quaint and the beds are fantastic. However, you'll have to put up with noise from construction on a major building across from the hotel. Jackhammers, motors, etc. And they do construction throughout the nights and weekends as well. Parking is incredibly tight. Rooms very small. Definitely pet-friendly, and if you like sitting on sofas in the lounge with pet hair, this place is for you. Very expensive for what you get. Otherwise, plenty of other nearby alternatives.
