It's definitely a refurbished motel, obviously, for the great downtown location. It has a great bar/music venue attached, so if you're there for the music...

Don't go to the Jupiter if you want to sleep. I was on the "quiet" side, at the end of the courtyard, and still had all the partiers around me...
Party Central
This Hotel was nothing like the web site suggested. Very misguiding. It actually looks like an old Motel 6 that has been freshly painted and ev...
Hotel was seedy at best with local shops surrounding i.e. witchcraft stores with dead crows. Party nightly and one thrown by hotel on Saturday night. VERY LOUD and no answer at desk - just wanted to know when the party would be over. Restaurant over rated with over cooked food and waite staff who do not like complaints. Front desk accomadating while you were checking in and out. Locked out of hotel room on sunday at 10 AM - they do this to get people out of the hotel - we were there until monday and paid in full. Little or no security. Bathrooms were horrible - wear slippers or socks everywhere - maybe rubber gloves too. Pillows made of fake fur - gross. Overpriced for accomodations. I am a hotel manager at a destination resort in Idaho. Come on....a tatoo parlor with a bass playing at all hours just below our room - ps take a lesson or give up!
The Jupiter Hotel in Portland, OR is on the surface a kitchy, trendy place decently located near Lloyds Center. For the right type of customer I am sure the funky atmosphere and fun party vibe would be very enjoyable. However if what you are looking for is a quiet evening in a comfortable room, this hotel is not for you.The room was quite possibly the smallest I have ever seen. The advertised "queen" bed was really only a double. The on site club and tattoo parlor were the focal points for parties (music provided courtesy of the blaring outdoor speaker system) in the central courtyard that went on until 4am. On Saturday there were no available spots to park in the access controlled garage. My parking fee was refunded for that night, but its difficult to understand how they sold more slots than they had for the cars to park in.Unless you are looking for this specific type of experience I highly recommend that you stay elsewhere, or a the very least reserve a room as far away from the club and courtyard as possible. Personally on my next trip I will trade kitch for comfort and stay at a chain hotel.
With Doug Fir across the parking lot and tattoo parlor and salon included, this is ideal for young folks, especially those who work in the entertainment industry. If you don't like noise and don't plan to hang out until last call, I'd recommend ear plugs. Tiny flaws include a small room, no extra outlets for laptops, and drafty doors. On the positive side, though, the bed is comfy and free wireless is always a plus. Food is never far away, and the west side is just a short walk across Burnside Bridge. I'd stay here again, but I'd never recommend it for a family.
The Jupiter looks cute and trendy on the exterior. The front desk staff was friendly. I was dissapointed with the interior of the rooms however. Felt like I was staying at a glamorous Motel 6. Basically the same ammenities except the decor is IKEA. You can hear EVERYTHING including street noise, your neighbor's conversation, and the dump truck emptying a dumpster full of glass bottles at 5:30 am. Ran the a/c unit the whole time to try to drown it out. The kicker was when I came back at 10 pm one night, tired and ready to relax and there was literally a BATTLE OF THE BANDS going on in the courtyard outside of my room w/ about 100 noisey onlookers. I had no idea I had booked a room at a concert venue and no one warned me upon check in. They were nice enough to move me to another room further away but I still got to listen to a DJ and drunk party goers until 1 a.m. If you are a college age kid or you just like to party- this may be the place for you. Otherwise- I would say save your money and book elsewhere. The Doug Fir (their restaurant/ lounge) is worth a visit and a good music venue (indoors!)
What a great hotel. We were not far from eats, stores, or highways. The room is fab. I wish my apt. looked this great. The little kitchen is to die for and the staff is wonderful.
Imagine jet lag and a * room in which you can't wait to relax! Imagine a big tent outside your room with Mexican wrestling booked for 3 hours of loud music and crashes and yelling! That was me in room 132. There is a black board on the doors so crazy fans were writing on my now barricaded door. Don't book your mother here or anyone that wants to sleep. A live band followed the wrestling. ""Special after midnight Rate"" sign in the window. Not clean enough. PS I arrived on a Sunday.
