This hotel is very very good! My wife and I were on vacation and our entire experience from the time we checked in until checkout was just perfect. The first positive experience we had with staff was after we checked in we were not satisfied with our room view. Within 10 minutes we were accomodated by being moved to another room with a fantastic view over the pool and courtyard. This by the way was done with the assistance of two staff persons, who could not have been more friendlier. The hotel's location is very convenient and within walking distance to many of the areas museums and attraction spots. If you drive, valet park, and forget about your vehicle until check out, as there is really not a real need to do a lot of driving unless its just mandatory. My vehicle was valet parked and upon checkout, it was returned very promptly by staff persons. As far as the rooms are concerned they are very comfortable. The only thing is the bath is somewhat small, but very clean and adequate. Overall the service at this hotel for value is excellent, and I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
Carl from the front desk and the rest of the crew did a great job of taking care of my wife and I. The busboys were fantatstic. I don't even know who the managers are because I never even had to talk to one. The only complaint my wife and I uttered was that the bartender needed to put a little more Vodka into the Cosmopolitan. Great stay and look forward to coming back.
In our past stays at Priority Club Hotels, we have reserved an Executive Level King room. They have always been large rooms along with their particular amenities. We were very surprised at the small sized rooms on the Club level of the Charleston Mills. We contacted the management upon check in and told them that we would like a larger room the next day. We contacted the front desk manager at 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and then at 2:30 p.m. Finally, we looked at another room that was exactly the same as our room, but on a lower floor and not on the Executive level! We returned to the front desk and reiterated that we wanted a larger room. At that point the manager very snippily told us that our room was a standard King room (not what we reserved) and that was all that was available. The last time we stayed at the Charleston Mills, it was before the renovation, and it was an unpleasant stay because the hotel was obviously in need of updates. We gave the hotel another chance since it was renovated in 2007. In spite of these renovations, the bathrooms were dirty (dark fingerprints on back of bathroom door and hair in the bath), the "Club Level Breakfast" was incredibly bad, with stale muffins and unripened fruit. For the amount of money paid, club level guests should get coupons for the buffet downstairs. The final insult occurred upon check out when we had to wait 30 minutes for our car to be brought around by the valet.
My husband and I checked in on a Sunday afternoon our room was ready and it was beautiful. Semi-canopied beds, sitting area, coffee pot and cups, plenty of towels and pillows which i like a lot of. The resturant and bar were very nice and i loved the patio which we sat out and had drinks several times after a long day of sightseeing. The walk to the famous market area was not to far just down the street. The staff was more than friendly and helpful.
I stayed there during a conference. The accommodations were really nice. The room was nice, but the service was better. They provide all of the amenities and turn down service. The restaurant food and service was very good as well. As far as the conference facilities were concerned, the rooms were a bit too cold. Conference food is often not good, but this was very good. The location is ideal for a safe walk at night to most trendy restaurants and sites--a big plus since I had not rented a car. A shuttle and a bus both stopped across from the hotel. The front desk seemed unfriendly when I checked in; however, at checkout they were very helpful.
I recently stayed at the Mills House with my sister, her 6 year old son and our 82 year old mother. Our experience was very good, however, I really didn't feel the amenities were up to par with the cost (*per night for our rooms. The rooms were well decorated but lacked some amenities associated with a higher end hotel. We had a coffee maker and one bottle of water. That's it. No mini fridge, or safe. Bathrobes were provided but didn't make up for the lack of space and upgrades that the bathrooms needed. The concierge was very inadequate and when asked a simple question about the ghost tours simply handed us a brochure and told us it was in there. She was difficult to understand and seemed to be annoyed that she had to extend herself. The pool and pool area were great. Plenty of lounge chairs and towels. The restaurant and outdoor garden areas were above average and extremely well done. Both were a pleasure to be in. Finally, the location is tops. A short walk to the market and close to antique shops and Broad St. I think we agreed that we would be happy to stay at the Mills House again and hope we could do so for a little less.
