Welcome to De Smet SD. the original Little Town on the Prairie. Laura Ingalls Wilder was the little pioneer girl that won the hearts of the people on the TV. series by Michael Landon. Little House On The Prairie. This TV series sparked the interest in her books. People in Japan worship this series and save for years to come to this little town of 1200 persons. De Smet needed a family quality motel that was smack dab in the heart of Laura Ingalls Wilder country. From our motel you may visit The ingalls homestead that is the 160 acres of original Pa's property. He homesteaded in the 1800s and proved up on his free land. Our motel is primed to serve families. Nice continental breakfast-indoor pool and spa. We have suites for the extended stay families and many like to stay extra long to see everything. and also travel to Walnut Grove for 1 day and return to do more things at the Homestead. But the main attraction is the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum with the original homes that Laura and her family lived in. The first one that you will view is the surveyors house and the second is Pas house on third street. What ever your scedule permits we have the room for you. Our front desk staff will find the right accmodations for you and your family. If you are coming on business or pleasure we have High Speed Internet Access. We might be the Prairie, but we have all of the ammenities of a big city. either on site or off site. Come and stay for a peacefull family inviorment and share a part of original history on the Prairie of South Dakota.

Good thing that it's a nice place, because it's pretty much the only place. It was clean and comfy. The pool was indoors and those have a tendency to be rather muggy, but the kids still enjoyed it.
