The Emily Morgan Hotel is next door to the historic Alamo, within walking distance of the San Antonio River Walk, and approximately 10 miles from San Antonio International Airport. Cited as one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival Architecture in America, the Emily Morgan hotel building served for a long period as a Medical Arts building. The building is designed by the famous San Antonio architect Ralph Cameron. In fact, if you look very closely, terra cotta gargoyles hanging over the ground floor windows, hint at toothaches and other medical maladies. The Emily Morgan is a non-smoking facility and features polished stone floors, Texas limestone, traditional mahogany furnishings, transparent stone fireplace, stainless-steel pool and spa tub, and fitness center. A library with fireplace adjoins the lobby. ORO Restaurant and Bar is a sophisticated restaurant that overlooks the gardens of the Alamo and serves Italian cuisine. Room service is available 24 hours daily. Pets are welcome, and the restaurant offers a pet menu. Guests traveling with a pet will be charged a 75.00 non-refundable fee at check-in. Valet parking is available for all guests at 26 plus tax per day. All rooms are non-smoking and feature Aveda personal care products, feather-top beds, CD players, bathrobes, granite-topped desks, ergonomic chairs, multi-line phones, voicemail, turndown service, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, and coffeemakers. Refrigerators are available by request at check-in for an additional fee of 10.00 per night, payable directly to hotel. Rollaway beds are available upon request at check-in for an additional fee of 20.00 per night.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They pleasantly accommodated our request for a late checkout, and when we were late for our late check out, they didn?t complain. The beds were amazing. I hadn?t slept that well in months. We ate at the restaurant twice and were pleased both times. My only complaint is that the bathtub was a bit shabby. Overall, a very nice experience.
This hotel is OK at best. The price is high for such an old place. It has been remodled, but the age still shows. My main issue with this hotel is that my car was broken into and no one on the staff cared. When you arrive they ask you if you want to self park or have valet parking. It cost *.00 a night either way. DO NOT SELF PARK!!!! They don't bother to tell you that the hotel will not take any responsibility for your car if you park it even though it is in the lot they provide for the 24 charge. I didn't find this out until it was too late. If you choose to stay at this hotel, please don't make the same mistake. The service was pretty good, but it is still over priced and not secure. I would not stay here again.
My husband and I chose the Emily Morgan because of its location and historical background. Our room was acceptable but not exceptional considering we were in the largest suite beside the presidential suite. There was a wet bar but no refrigerator and ice was only on even floors. The room was tidy but certainly not clean and the bathroom was grimey, especially the jacuzzi tub. The staff was rude and very un-accomodating. At check in the clerk was very rude about self-parking vs valet and we discovered they cost the same and are in the same parking lot. Then we called for extra pillows and she told us she was the only person working so it may be hours before she could accomodate us. There was one valet who was wonderful but unfortunately he could not carry the entire hotel. There was a fatal shooting at the hotel while we were there and instead of letting us know what was going on they pretended like nothing was wrong. The entire lobby was full of firemen and police but, "It is no big deal," per the desk staff. The pool and spa were filthy and we had to ask everytime we tried to swim for someone to open the pool even though it was supposed to have opened hours before. My husband had to find a water hose and fill the hot t ub. If you called the front desk it would take 20+ rings before anyone would answer and hours before anything would be accomplished. The hotel is beautiful to look at and as long as you do not interact with the staff the rooms are acceptable but certainly not a value for your money. Stay at the Crockett or Menger for a better value at the same location!
I would not choose to stay at the Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio, nor would I recommend others staying there. I killed a 2-inch long cockroach in my room. In fairness, the hotel provided free breakfast the next day. I also killed other, smaller bugs each day I was there. 3. UNCLEAN. The room was not clean. There was mold in the bathroom, piles of dust on the window sills and in the corners of the room, the desk top was sticky and grimy, the shelves in the bathroom were also grimy. one of the glasses turned out to have floating debris in in, after I poured wanter in. I had to request a special cleaning to get the surfaces cleaned. I cold also see the swimming pool from my window on the 6th floor, and it too loooked pretty dirty. People were swimming every day though. 4. SMALL ROOMS. The room I stayed in with a king bed was very small. There were hardly any hangers in the small wardrobe. 5. NOT BUSINESS FRIENDLY. The desk was small (and grimy as noted earlier) with very little work surface. We paid *for Internet service, for the whole 5 days, which compared to other hotels was not a bad price. However, their "business center" had no ink in the printer, and no one knew where to get refills. I had to have the airline fax my boarding pass to me, which the hotel printed for free, which was OK, if they can't keep their business center printers inked. 6. PARKING. You must use valet parking,
The hotel has old world charm, but it also came with mold, bad AC and cockroaches -- BIG cockroaches. The business center was a joke -- no ink in the printer, and no one who could find any. The first night I managed to kill a 2" long (4" with antennae) cockroach in my room. The room was only marginally clean, with mold in th bathroom.
When i arrived at Hotel room was not available they said they would put us in room with dbl beds and there would be a spa in bath tub, I am Preg so bed was very confurtable but me and my husband did not fit on bed we had to sleep on seprate beds although we asked for a queen side in a month in advance. the tub was dirty and robe and bed had stains on them also the condements were used. the employers were friendly and an ok view of alamo the pool was small for a large hotel but i would not reqamind Emily Morgan and I would Not stay again.
