Yes, indeed. I don't think Teddy Roosevelt would notice a thing different since he was here recruiting the Rough Riders for the Spanish American War. The Pub is the same (good); so are the rooms (NOT good), the plumbing (really not good) and the decor (oh boy). Rooms are tiny; the bathroom more so. The bathroom floor is 10" higher than the BR floor - good luck, wheelchairs! The rate was three dollars less than the downtown Hilton in Austin the night before but the difference in quality and value was several orders of magnitude. Good parts - Central location, next door to a contemporaneous structure called the Alamo. Nice lobby, clean hallways. All told, if you have been doing some heavy duty sinning lately and feel the need for some penance, a few days here might be just the ticket.

First off, this hotel was not in need of being updated nor were the linens in need of replacing. The rooms were a normal sized hotel room and the beds were soft and pillows plump (4 per bed). Sheets were white and towels were fluffy and clean. Everything was clean as it could get and the staff was the most frientdly I have encountered. They were helpful and would bend over backwards for anyone. I truly felt pampered. But I only know of 1 restaurant in the hotel, which is on the pricey side so we did not eat there. The rest of the hotel is absolutely amazing. Antique furnishings scattered throughout and you just had to wonder who sat there and who used that. This hotel takes you back in time! There is a gorgeous garden you can sit in and the pool was nice as well. Down stairs next to the pool a spa is also available. There are some pretty unique gift shops and botiques inside the hotel. And with the River Walk entrance across the street in front and the Alamo across the street to the left it is in a perfect location! Valet parking is avaiable for 25/day or you can park right behind the hotel in the mall parking garge for 18/day. I want to suggest a book "History and Mystery of the MENGER Hotel". I found it after our stay and wish I had read it before. It will make your stay much more enjoyable. Also there are 2 parts to the hotel, the original and the newer. I heard the original had furnishings like claw feet tubs etc. So if you want older & charming, just ask when you check in. I want to go back just for the hotel!

This hotel blew me away. It is a rare historical beauty in an ideal location. The rooms are of average size with super high ceilings, very clean. The bathrooms are wonderful, they are the really cool old tile, they also are very clean. It was such a pleasure just being able to stay, walk around the lobby, enjoy the beautiful pool. The brunch was also wonderful, very nice. I really have nothing bad to say about this hotel. If you appreciate a blast from the past The Menger is the way to go.

The hotel, staff and facilities are fantastic!!! My child really enjoyed the pool and room service is fabulous! There are shops, boutiques and more than one restaurant in the hotel and the mall is about 200 yards away. You can walk to the Alamo and the River walk VERY easily! The rooms are a little small but the beds are nice! didn't see any ghosts but will definitely stay here EVERY SINGLE TIME we visit San Antonio!!!

The historical Menger is a fabulous place to stay--across the street from the Alamo and just a street car ride away from everything else. The historical ambiance of the place awed even my four-year-old granddaughter who loved the stories about Roosevelt and Robert E. Lee. The brunch buffet was to die for. Go again and again.

This place is in need of a total modernization. It smelled very moldy, rooms were very small, bathrooms need to be updated and bathroom linen is in dire need of being retired.
