Nestled on a 15-acre preserve, Point Pleasant Resort overlooks the Caribbean Sea and the British Virgin Islands and is approximately nine miles from Saint Thomas Airport. This location is also six miles from Charlotte Amaile. Ferry service to Saint John and the other Virgin Islands departs from the town of Red Hook, three miles west of Point Pleasant Resort. The property's amenities include the three freshwater pools, 15-acre island preserve, tennis court, trails to Pineapple Beach, complimentary snorkel gear, complimentary scuba lessons, and kayak or sailboat rentals. For dining, the resort houses Fungis (on the beach with local fare) and the Agave Terrace (which serves seafood). Excellent
My family and I stayed for three nights and had no complaints. There were four adults and two kids who loved that we had to drive on a hill. Ask for XYZ, who is very pleasant and will help out with no problems. When we arrived our room wasn't ready however XYZ dropped us off at Fungi's on the property to have lunch. We stayed on top of the "Point" (no pun intended" which was a 2 bedroom unit. We had a great view of Wyndham Resort. We rented a van which came in handy since we bought food from grocery store. Can't wait to come back next year.
Excellent
Yes, the place is hilly, you are all right, but there's a shuttle service that can take you anywhere in the resort. We stayed there for a full week and truly enjoyed it. There are three pools to choose from, in three different levels. The nature trails are awesome, they have this botanical garden where every tree/ plant has a sign explaining what it is. These nature trail ends in a gazebo, at sea level, where you have wonderful views of the islands; St John and the BVIs. Rent a car and drive around, do not miss St John. Each beach in STT has it's own identity, we loved Coki Beach at sunset, Sapphire Beach during the mornings and do not miss Magen's bay and the pelicans that make this beach their home. The staff was friendly and the room was nicely decorated, with a tropical touch in the bedroom, with a very comfy king size bed. This apartment in particular had a nice bar with champagne, martini and margarita glasses, plus a blender, so it was great to have a drink in the huge wrap around balcony. Incredible views, we had dinner in the balcony a couple of nights, the weather was great and the trade winds were blowing nicely. This is a very private unit, and even though we could notice the place was booked solid (full parking lots), it was quiet and private. Nothing like the typical resorts we've visited in the past. This unit (D35), is a Hilltop unit, as they call it, it's worth the climb. There is good parking space at the top and a pool very close by. For sure will come back and pass the word around. Nikki
Staff - Very Rude
It's a good resort with beautiful ocean views from private patios. It's a little run down but good value for the money. If it's your first to the virgin islands I highly recommend to get a rental car. Door lock on the room would not open with the key we were given, the bell man was rude and told me "not to mess with the door". The next day when we were absent somebody came and fixed the lock but left the door OPEN with our stuff inside. When we called the front desk to inquire about this they never responded. Do not use hotel taxi service. A hotel employee reserved a taxi for us to take us to the airport in the morning, she stated it was chaeper than other taxis. The taxi was almost an hour late and the driver was rude. He charged us more than we were initially told with giving any explanation why. While I didn't considert it a downfall of the hotel, you have to be in a very good physical shape to climb those hills. On the other hand such a natural landscape allows you to have gorgeous views. Kitchenette was definitely a plus considering prices of restaurant meals. Good experience overall.
Excellent
We had a one bedroom suite, fantastic views, overlooking the ocean and pool, two walls were sliding glass doors that you could open for breeze, didn't even need the the air conditioning. Very satisfied with the room. The only thing I can say is next time we will go all inclusive, groceries were a shock to the wallet. You must take the snorkeling/sailing trip worth every penny.
Staff - Very Rude
People's experiences here seem to be hit-or-miss. Part of this seems to be due to the fact that the rooms are individually owned and rented out during the owner's absence. So the room quality is to some degree based on how well the owner has furnished the room. In my case the room was lovely with a wrap-around balcony affording a gorgeous view. Considering the rather low rate I got my first thought when I walked in was "Is this the right room?". The kitchenette was fully stocked and the TV/air conditioner both worked fine. The cable did go out a couple times, but conversations with the locals assured me that this is a common problem on the island. Besides, I didn't come here to watch TV. My experiences with the staff were excellent. Everyone from the check-in girl to the shuttle drivers were friendly and helpful. Special kudos go to K the concierge who had many helpful suggestions and to J who was an absolute hoot! The beach and facilities are a little basic, but other beaches are close by. I do recommend renting a car as the cab rides add up very quickly. One note: Point Pleasant has been compared unfavorably to the resort next door. The resort next door is the newly-refurbished Wyndham, whose rooms are 2 to 3 times as expensive as the rooms here. So it is to some degree a case of getting what you pay for!
PLanning another visit
Althought the hotel offers a beautiful landscaping site and the breeze to the rooms is wonderful. The staff can be very short tempered and rude, especially after you've paid your monies. No late check even if all check-ins are at 3p...can't even wait until the cleaning crews get there...Staff was rude, short-tempered and lack any appreciation for their guest. go there if you want to be treated like a piece of dirt.
