Great Staff, great Facility
I have read other reviews that the Chenay Bay is under a lot of construction and that it was loud. This is not true. Chenay Bay is doing construction, but not the way most people think. There are new owners that took over the property about a year ago and are putting millions into upgrading the property. 1/2 of the 50 cottages have been upgraded with new masonry exteriors, new tiles and stone work inside, new bathrooms and new appliances. There is still some way to go, but there is still a lot of money being put into it. There is a amazing rest. and bar on property, with servers that show up pool side with drinks you didn't even order. (this happened to me, i was swimming underwater in the pool, when i can to the surface, 'D' the bartender was standing there with a mixed drink. On the house of course, he just wanted to make sure we were staying hydrated in the sun. Talk about amazing). Denise in the rest. has this amazing way about her. She moved to the island years about, and i can only describe her and happiness comes out of her pours. She and D made our stay at Chenay Bay the best. As for any other construction concerns, the workers are on "island time". If you have ever been to the islands, you understand. If not, this is it is a nut shell, enjoy life, take you time, move slower, and nothing starts before 10am. So go down sleep in, and come home more relaxed and refreshed then you could imagine. Just give yourself like 7-10 days, if you are like us, you will fill the first 3 or so days with jet skiing, sailing, kayaking, and diving, then just relax.
Great Staff, great Facility
I had to move rooms after my first night due to an overbooking. The second room was not updated like the first one and it was near construction. I had a piece of jewelry stolen from the bathroom and the manager did not get back to me until 4 days later when I told the front desk that I was leaving. I was charged an extra night as a penalty for leaving early and paid double per night at the hotel down the road that I moved to but it was worth it because the second hotel had a much more beautiful room and grounds. I feel that the manager did not believe me about the missing jewelry or did not care. He told me that he had looked for me all day to discuss the matter after he had actually passed me at the pool twice and later sat near him at the bar. I was willing to overlook the on-going construction, the large bugs in the room, the leaving A/C, and the no hot water for 2 days but stolen jewelry is not acceptable to me as a traveler.
We arrived late and the security officer had keys to our cottage and a boxed sandwich and drink upon arrival. The property is being renovated and our room had not been done yet, but it was clean and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and family friendly and the restaurant is wonderful.
This secluded little resort was a hidden gem. My wife and I had a great time at the beach. The pool was beautiful overlooking gren cay island. The staff was friendly and attentive. we stayed in one of the cottages with a beautiful view of the ocean. We loved the friday fish fry. The place is under renovation but is defenetly headed in the right direction.
