Top 50 Ski & Snowboard Resorts in Europe 2008-2009, 2nd Edition

by Pat Sharples and Vanessa Webb. Foulsham, 2007; $25.95

I feel pretty confident that when the authors include the head coach of the British Freeski Camps and former England Freestyle team captain, as well as a ski instructor and coach, I’m in good hands. Sharples is the expert on the mountains, while Webb covers the resorts and editing. Everything from the best trails to the best non-skiing activities is covered at length.

Pros

There are gear guide sections rating skis, boards and gadgets, among others. There is a lot of stuff snow bunnies need for a day out on the slopes, and you get a comprehensive list with advice on the best. Boxes such as “Getting There” and “Useful Information” make it easy to find what you want to know.

Great Tips

I’m a sucker for lists and this guide is packed with them, from the authors’ favorites to top five lists in several categories: backcountry, cheapest lift passes, heliskiing, where the rich and famous go, etc.

Cons

Random quotes (who are they from?) are scattered throughout the book in a large font. I really could do without these.

Worth Buying?

Yes; it contains all the details you need to plan your European ski vacation.
