Wonderful vacation
this was by far the best vaccation ever! the hotel was beautiful! the view was amazing, right on the beach! the staff and service were excellent. everyone was very friendly. the hotel was very, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. the food was really good (it was expensive to eat out all the time, but all of the menus and prices are all on their website). the spa was really, really nice! well worth it. there is every activity possible available to make anyone happy. the hotel even offers some free activities like iguana feedings and evening movies in the pool. the beach was beautiful and there are plenty of umbrellas and lounge chairs on the if you want shade. there are 3 pools, a kiddie, a family and an adult pool so if you don't want to be around kids splashing you don't have to share the same pool. the tours were really fun and well worth it, especially if you haven never been to the area (i wouldn't have wanted to do them without a guide). we didn't need to rent a car since we stopped at the grocery store for snacks before we got to the hotel and the place was so beautiful we didn't want to leave. however, if you do want to rent a car there is an avis right on site and the hotel offers other transportation options. it was an amazing value and was basically like staying out a full scale country club for a really good price! (i feel bad for anyone who doesn't have a good time here. they are obviously looking to complain and would complain about anything then).
When Can I Go Back
My wife and I went here for our 20th anniversary and had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful to us. The front desk offered us an upgrade to an ocean view parlor room upon checkin and even showed us the room along with the resort view room I had booked. There was no comparison and we took the upgrade. We did rent a car and drove to old San Juan which is a beautiful place and nice way to spend the day. It is a little hectic driving over there and parking was difficult to find until we found a policeman who helped us to parking deck. It took about 45 minutes - 1 hour to get over there but we did not take the toll road so you could probably make it a little quicker if you went that way. The rainforest was very close and a great way to spend the day. The rest of the time was on the beach or at the pools and the resort itself is very well maintained and was not crowded during our stay. Plenty of towels and chairs available. We were glad we decided to stay outside of San Juan and just drive over there for the one day. We speak no Spanish but did not have any issues while we were at the resort or any of the tourist areas. Overall we had a great time and would recommend to anyone.
Good for price but would stay elsewhere in future
Beautiful Resort beach and pools. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Great views of Ocean and pools or Rain Forest across from resort. Food and drink prices are high for Island. Prices for Food were US Resort prices. Recommend Rental car for doing day excursions. Have Avis rental in Hotel.
Wonderful vacation
Check in was fast and flawless, facility, while not quite a Hyatt Regency, was excellent and the staff made Hyatt look like Motel 6. Grounds were peaceful and manicured beyond belief. Plenty of choices for meals on the property and the casino was perfect in size and most enjoyable. Will definitely stay again next trip to Puerto Rico at this facility. Even offered a complimentary parlor suite post check out for those with late flights home which was a total surprise. Staff bent over backwards to accomodate guest needs at all points....

Resort is extremely private and in a beautiful and secluded area of Puerto Rico. The hotel beach has plenty of space to spread out, and it feels like you are alone on the beach. The two pools are beautiful, but often crowded with young kids.
Wonderful vacation
The hotel and propterty were fabulous. The employees were gracious and helpgul. The pools were clean and gorgeous. The only negative comment I have is that the restuarants on the property were VERY expensive. We rented a car and ate off the property most of the time. There are ways to try to eat cheaply but one has to be creative. The cocktails/drinks were very expensive too. The hotel and flight cost were very reasonable. The restuarants were beaurtiful and had great menus but costly.I would stay again at the Rio Mar.
When Can I Go Back
I wanted to share our 5 night stay at Rio Mar. I had to really search high and low to compare this with El Conquistador. I am so GLAD we chose Rio Mar Wyndham. I attended the conference at El Conquistador and aside from the view (worth a visit) Rio Mar Wyn has a better location right next to the beach and plenty of pools and many activity. Its closeness to the Rain forest and other service make this the best chose between the two.

This is a spectular hotel, spa and casino. Numerous great restaurants, food was excellent, although a bit pricey, but worth it. When staying at such a grand hotel one should not expect to find McDonald pricing! Service was excellent, all staff friendly and accomodating, beyond what should be expected. Both my daughter and husband said they had the best massage in the spa they have ever had! Do not, repeat, do not buy the Carribean Transfers to the hotel. State regulated price for a taxi to the hotel is just 65.00 each way, and taxi's are readily available both ways, including private vans. Taxi to old San Juan is 85.00, so a tour maybe less expensive, and you can sign up for a 1/2 day tour right at the hotel, so you do not have to decide before you even get there. Though they have an adults only pool, if you're not travelling with children, I would suggest you go to this hotel on weeks when there is no school vacation, including college breaks. If you are going to Puerto Rico to tour the island on your own this is not the hotel for you. If you are going to enjoy a vacation with spectular, impeccably groomed grounds, superior food, spa, and service, excellent casino, and guided tours available to take to wherever you wish to go that you can book at the hotel, than this is the hotel for you. We can hardly wait to go back!
Should have gone elsewhere.
We were there during August. Absolutely beautiful and had everything desired for our comfort. Landscaping and friendly iguanas, beautiful beach (surf rough); gorgeous pools. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Only complaint was cost of food - ate elsewhere as much as possible. Would definitely return.

We did not want to leave. The room was nicely appointed -- the beds are unbelievably comfortable! We received an upgrade upon arrival to an ocean view room. Very quiet unless we wanted to open the patio door to listen to the coqui (frogs). We rented a convertible and enjoyed the weather and drives to neighboring sights -- El Yunque rainforest, Old San Juan, Puerto del Rey to catch a snorkeling trip to Culebra. The beach is so quiet and beautiful, very private. Chairs and umbrellas are already in place thanks to the hotel staff. Service was always readily available. Very family friendly for all ages. Can't wait to come back!
Spectular Grounds & Hotel, great restaurants
Room was spacious and clean and view of rainforest was beautiful! This is our second visit to the Rio Mar and both have been pleasant experiences. The only negative is that food/drink is very expensive within the resort.
Should have gone elsewhere.
What a stunning resort with so much to offer. The golf courses are beautiful as is the beach and the hotel. The staff is friendly and professional. I had a wonderful massage at the spa which offers many spa treatments. I was impressed with the perfectly manicured grounds and their tropical plants. The dining was superb with a great selection of fine wines.I took long walks on the beach mornings and at sunset. Simply breathtaking!
Spectular Grounds & Hotel, great restaurants
This was the most beautiful resort my husband and I have been to! Food, help and rooms were 5 star! Casino needs help!
Hotel had virtually no activity. no transport, not value formoney
Would recomend anyone who wants to have a short getaway for a good price. Off season is perfect time as well. Nice rooms. The best drinks, Beach is Beautiful. Food is perfect.
Should have gone elsewhere.
The views from our roon was breathtaking. The pools and all the activities were super. The Bartenders at the Tiki Bar were more than happy to let us know the hot spots and attractions that we should vist. We took their advice and had a marvelous time at the clubs they recommended. This Hotel is the BEST!!!!!! I am accually booking my family vaction there now...PR #1.

Stayed over an extra night after returning to San Juan from southern Caribbean cruise. Wish we would have known how nice this resort is - we would have stayed longer and brought golf clubs. Beautiful, light brown, fine-grained sand beach, almost like walking on brown sugar.
Wonderful vacation
Fabulous hotel and grounds. The staff is the most helpful and fiendliest we have ever encountered. All inclusive feature has been discontinued which is too bad since the restaurants are a little pricey. Would go back in a heartbeat!
When Can I Go Back
The hotel is staggeringly beautiful aith one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean. The staff could not do enough to please you. They always went the extra mile.
Spectular Grounds & Hotel, great restaurants
My family and I enjoyed it. My niece got hurt and the staff were wonderful and had a doctor look at her will be there again in july 07
Hotel had virtually no activity. no transport, not value formoney
The beach was beautiful, pool side well designed and great for both families and adults. The hotel restaurants were first rate. We dined in the hotel on two evenings, both meals excellent. Not enough by way of ""quick meals"", hotel really needs a coffee shop type restaurant. The casino was in bad shape, many machines out of order and the one black jack table was a 10 table, making casual gambling too expensive. The staff is wonderful and friendly and there is no request too small. We highly recommend this resort.

We visited for our 10 year anniversary. The resort was inexpensive and had the look and feel of being in Hawaii. The staff was great could not do enough for you. The room was huge, clean very modern. Also free wifi in the hotel lobby. We will return to this resort soon.
not the best
Will definately return to the Westin Rio Mar. Had a problem with 1st room so I was upgraded to a honeymoon suite with ocean view. Have no complaints about this place. Will return with no problem. The place was beautiful. Did not enjoy the beach because it was raining and the other days we were out site seeing.

If you are looking to get away from the "rat race" type areas, this is the place for you. Rent a car and visit the busy, exciting areas; and then retreat to the seculsion of the Rio Mar. Many things to do right on the facility. Hotel and grounds are relaxing and breathtaking. Staff friendly and helpful.
