The preeminent public park in Barcelona is Antoni Gaudí’s Park Güell, an Art Nouveau masterpiece of open space, with mosaic dragon fountains, gingerbread gatehouses and the long, sea serpent bench surrounding the main terrace. The main park in the city’s downtown, Parc de la Ciutadella, was once a fortress, but is now home to gardens, Catalan parliament and the city zoo. Jardins del Mirador provides an excellent city and sea view; the labyrinth of Parc del Laberint d’Horta is lined with sculptures and home to a variety of plants and flowers in the garden.
