If you know nothing else about San Diego, you likely know that it is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, and the first SeaWorld. The San Diego Zoo is one of the largest and most progressive zoos in the country, with more than 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species. Its popular Wild Animal Park, located 32 miles north of downtown San Diego, lets the animals roam free while visitors observe from the safety of safari Jeeps or the park’s rail system. The SeaWorld Adventure Park is where the original Shamu dazzled audiences with tricks and flips.
Located in neighboring Carlsbad, Legoland California is the only location of this popular European amusement park in the United States. In addition to rides, Legoland is filled with Lego-made statues of anything from Harry Potter to the White House. For the traditional beach and boardwalk experience while in San Diego, head to Mission Beach’s Belmont Park and take a ride on its world-famous roller coaster, the Giant Dipper.
