Philadelphia Art and Museums

Philadelphia is home to many art galleries and museums, including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the oldest art museum in the United States. It displays artwork from modern and historic artists alike, such as Gilbert Stuart, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe and Frederick Hassam. The Philadelphia Museum of Art was founded in 1876 and has since become integral to the city’s culture. The Rodin Museum features more than 120 sculptures created by French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Some of the celebrated works on display include “The Gates of Hell,” “The Burghers of Calais” and “The Thinker.”

Pay homage to those who fought for your freedom with a visit to the National Liberty Museum. The museum boats exhibits and galleries that are devoted to national and international heroes, which includes Nelson Mandela, the Abolitionists and Raoul Wallenburg. Philadelphia has more murals that any other city in the United States: more than 2,000 to be more precise. Take a mural tour and relish in the fact that great art isn’t just displayed within the walls of a museum.
